Saw the YOO HOO, MRS. GOLDBERG movie/documentary today.
It's quite good, but in very limited release. It's alleged to become
available on dvd for Mother's Day, appropriately. Gertrude Berg's OTHER sitcom, MRS. G. GOES TO COLLEGE/THE GERTRUDE BERG SHOW is also covered late in the film, albeit briefly. A great glimpse into
TVs infancy.

I actually went to a movie art house and saw the film over the summer here in New Jersey....enjoyed it very much and wondered why there weren't more episodes available on DVD besides the usual 10, since in the documentary, it seemed many others were available, then last week www.tvshowsondvd.com announced that a "complete as possible" 6 disc DVD set is in the works for early 2010 as part of the recently announced new online only exclusive DVD sets by Shout Factory. Very Good News Indeed!

I saw it over the summer as well. With UCLA, I helped compile the known remaining episodes for this set. Other that 70 year old Jews, I don't know who is going to buy the thing. But it's great that it's coming out. Amazingly, there are only about 6-7 CBS episodes left and that's where the show was most popular.

There are exceptions. I'm not 70 and I'm not Jewish, but
I'll definitely buy it. I'm an anomalie, to be sure.
I'd like to get more of the NBC episodes.
Also, I have the entire run of the MRS. G. GOES TO COLLEGE/
GERTRUDE BERG SHOW form the early sixties (FOUR STAR STUDIOS).

The doc. was really coy about exactly why Phillip Loeb was blacklisted. One is left thinking that "Red Channels" and the sponsors just wanted to pick on Jews,(I'm Jewish)but Loeb must have belonged to at least one Communist front group. It wasn't as willy-nilly as people today think it was.
