....that Lucy was accussed of being a communist. How awful! I saw the IP today on Lifetime and was amazed. The poor women went though so much in her life.

Lo loh yea. I wonder what she thought of that, but her mind was probably on more important things at that time.

Hey Chris, have you ever read any bios on her or her autobiography? They go into more detail about what she went through during that time. It is pretty sad.

Lucy was actually pretty fortunate with that incident. At that time, being accused of being a communist was pretty much all it took to ruin a career. Most of the artists who were accused were NOT cleared, even though the majority were probably innocent of the charges. And they got blacklisted and couldn't work again for many years, if ever. But regardless of whether they were innocent or guilty, the whole idea of those hearings is repugnant. This is supposed to be a free country, which means even people who have unpopular ideas and opinions should have the right to hold those views and exercise them if they choose. That was a sad time in our nation's history when our government was bordering on fascism/nazism.

Ironic when you think the whole purpose of those hearings was to weed out the Nazi's, but they were pretty Nazi-like themselves.

Yeah, I think Burgess Meredith was another one that got blacklisted for a while. It took him years to get back to work from what I read about him.

The grandpa on the Waltons too and the girlfriend of Laverne's father on Laverne and Shirley. She was married to Larry Parks, and he even showed up at Lucy and Desi's house bearing red roses, but Desi politely asked him to leave as the media might misinterpret his actions!

So true. Unfortunately we don't seem to have learned anyting from that horrible period because Joseph McCarthyism lives on today. Now it's called Donald Rumsfeldism.

Now I've learned something new. I never heard this about Larry Parks before. Why was he bringing Lucy and Desi red roses?

I found a new book on the weekend that is called Greatest Love Stories and there's a chapter on Lucy and Desi, only one picture and there's errors in it, a true Lucyfan alweays spoits errirs! Went for the joke there! Anyway, it said that some historians claim that it was Lucy's Communists incident that put an end to that whole MacCarthy mess, the public figured, if they were attacking their beloved Lucy these people couldn't be kosher!
