An I Love Lucy July 4th:
(Ricky is at home preparing for his show. Fred comes in.)
Fred: “Hi Rick!”
Ricky: “Hi Fred! Listen, I’m preparing for my July 4th show at the club. It’s going to take place on the roof of the Club Bavalu. I need people to shoot if fireworks…”
(Lucy cones barging in.)
Lucy: “Ricky! Ricky! I can help. Can I be in the show dear? I’ll shoot of the fireworks.”
Ricky: “Lucy, all you have to do is ask.”
Lucy: “Can I be in the show?”
Ricky: “No.”
Lucy: “Ricky, why not?”
Ricky: “Lucy, I want to shoot off fireworks in the sky. I don’t want them to hit the ground.”
Lucy: “Ricky, if I buy the fireworks with my own money and not pay you and work for free, can I do it?”
Ricky: “Ok. You can but you better not by any illegal fireworks and/or cannon crackers and/or anything from people on the street.”
Lucy: “What if I do? What will happen to me?“
Ricky: “It’s too horrible to think about.”
Lucy: “Ewwwww.”
(On the day of the show on the roof of the Club Babalu, Lucy shows up with Ethel.)
Ethel: “Ricky, will kill you if he found out you bought fireworks and cannon crackers on the street. They may be illegal too.”
Lucy: “Oh, they couldn’t be illegal. That street vendor looked so honest when I asked him if they are legal and he said that they are. You got to think positive. That guy wouldn’t lie.”
(It’s time for the show.)
Ricky: “Friends, I want to wish you all a Happy July 4th. I, being Cuban, am very grateful for my adopted home country. I came into this country and couldn’t speak the language but I was welcomed with open arms. So now, let’s get started.”
(Crowd claps. Lucy fires off the cannon crackers and fireworks. They misfire and hit unoccupied cars down in the street which causes them to explode. The cars? The Ricardos, Mertzes and cop cars. They race down and see the damage. Lucy has an “ewwww” look on her face. Ricky sees this and is SEETHING. Fred faints in hilarious fashion.)
Cop: “Lady, did you get those fireworks from a guy on the street who looks like this?”
(The cop shows Lucy the picture.)
Lucy: “Yes.”
Cop; “What you just bought were illegal fireworks and cannon crackers. You are going to jail and going to pay a hefty fine.”
Lucy: “I can’t pay it. I don’t have the money. Ricky?”
(Ricky starts yelling at Lucy in Spanish…where he says “illegal fireworks and cannon crackers.”)
Ricky (yells): “WHAT DID I TELL YOU?”
Lucy: “Ewwww.”
(The end.)
