I am watching Whistle Bait. I don't understand the reasons the guys give for not whistling at Betty. I do not think it has anything to do with a gal being new to the area.

I think Betty would have been whistled at. When I was growing up, guys would hang out the car window to whistle and howl at girls. Betty would not have made it down the street without several slapping the side of their car as they drove by.

A woman either has what guys are looking for or they don't. The amount of time in town has nothing to do with it.

Betty is no Elvia Horsen. Guys would have whistled at her for sure.

Personally, I've only "wolf whistled" women that I already knew, as a form of mock flattery.

Makes sense now--there was a lot more whistling at girls in 1956.

This is somewhat off-topic, but Elinor Donahue was maturing beautifully by the time FKB airings ended in the spring of 1960.

Here is an image of Elinor on Dennis the Menace, airing Oct. 9, '60.
I find this appearance interesting because in upcoming years, her hair
usually wouldn't be quite so wavy:

Just a couple of weeks later, viewers had their first look at Elinor as Ellie
Walker on TAGS. Quite lovely. Her hair is held back beautifully, revealing
such a pretty face:

Once again as Ellie, love the longer hair down around her shoulders. I'd
like to go back in time and take Andy's place here:
