Show made its debut on December 1, 1976 on NBC on Wednesday at 8pm

The show competed with Good times on CBS and Bionic Woman on ABC

After 8 weeks, NBC decided to move the show to 9pm on Wednesday night

Once the show was moved to Wednesday, the new competition was Baretta on ABC and CBS Wednesday Night Movies

Even though the 1st season ended with a ranking of #69 out of 101 shows, NBC renewed the show for another season

In season 2 the show replaced Sanford Arms on Friday Nights at 830pm and competed with Wonder woman on CBS and Donny and Marie on ABC.

CPO sharkey was the lowest rated show in that 830pm time slot on Friday nights and would be cancelled with a final ranking of #72

Even though it was cancelled, the show managed to have higher ratings than Maude, Redd Foxx Comedy Hour, The Richard Pryor Show, and Chico and the Man

The show was tailored to Rickles and fans of his style of humor

LA Times Lee Margulies said........"CPO Sharkey suffers from lack of spontaneity which makes it just another run-of-the-mill television comedy"

Dayton Daily News Tom Hopkins said....."Rickles has been defanged and the show doesn't show much promise of grabbing an audience"

Philadelphia Inquirer's Lee Winfrey stated......"It will be interesting to see if the producers can make the Sharkey character warm enough to lure viewers who have been repelled by Rickles abrasive stage manner in the past"
