This has to be the most ridiculous episode of the series even by Brady Bunch standards. Robert Reed refused to appear in 2 episodes and another scene because he claimed they were too unrealistic yet had no problem with this episode? Peter runs into someone at school that looks exactly like him, has the same hair and voice, and is the same height and weight. Arthur just has glasses. They pull a gag and fool the Brady's in the house but the plan gets foiled when Peter is stuck with 2 dates on the same night.
I realize in the early 70s this trick filming was becoming popular. The Bradys did it with Sgt Emma too. But this has to be the most ridiculous episode ever. Mike's boss is always using his family to entertain his family which is sort of an abuse of power

Trivia: This was the first episode filmed with Cousin Oliver. They filmed the intro episode after.

I don't remember it, but next to Little House, Brady Bunch is the series I skip the episodes the most. I miss a lot of them and good riddance.

I agree the premise is ridiculous--how many people have run into an unrelated twin? I'm not sure it's even possible. Even if it is possible, what are the odds the person would be the same age?

What are the odds that the person would be going to the same school?

The one I know about is when Bobby sold some hair goo that ended up turning Greg's hair orange--and it was graduation day (what turned out to be the final episode).

Reed thought the script was so ridiculous he refused to appear, so Sherwood Schwartz re-wrote him out. Florence had a line where she mentioned that Mike was "out of town."

Speaking of ridiculous, that was.

Hair Brained Scheme
and
Goodbye Alice Hello

and he refused to partake in the pie throwing scene with Oliver at the movie studio in Cousin Oliver's first episode. Reed is in the episode buy boycotted this scene.

Had there been a season 6 Sherwood Schwartz was going to let him go, I think I've read. The only question was how they would explain his absence. "Out of town" for a year, maybe?

I thought about this and wondered if Arthur was Peter's twin and for some reason was given up for adoption..... I notice they were careful not to show Mike and Carol being fooled, but the idea the siblings could be fooled is silly

We must put this episode in perspective in the early 70s these silly trick camera stuff was becoming popular. The Brady Bunch did it 3 times: 2 Pets in a Pod, Sgt Emma, and You're Never Too Old when the Brady parents are really the grandparents and talk to eachother in a scene.

Have always liked this episode. And the scene with Peter keeping two dates going before Arthur turns up is great. What if Arthur killed Peter and from the next episode onwards it was Arthur as Peter all along...

This is worth a watch.

The twin idea is totally improbable, but there's no doubt it's a funny episode, particularly the scene you mentioned.

He didn't want a pie thrown at him! They had a food fight on a My Three Sons episode, and Fred Mac Murray was nowhere in sight, either.

Yet he would dress up in drag and do even more ridiculous things on the Brady Bunch Variety Hour. Go Figure!

And no one else in Peter's school is stunned that Pete has and exact twin that even talks like him!! And he is never seen again after this episode.

Reed didn’t want to do the pie fight season because it was slapstick comedy (like the Three Stooges) and he said he didn’t sign up to do a slapstick show.

But he also refused to appear in episodes he considered improbable. He did not appear in Hello, Alice Goodbye because he felt the kids would never to that to their housekeeper. Like Florence would tell him all the time: This is not Shakespeare Bob. In the end, the bratty kids come around and are nice again

By the time this episode aired, was the Brady Bunch already cancelled?
This was one of the last episodes.
Anyone know when exactly the BB was cancelled?

I dont think they knew it was cancelled the time this episode was filmed. The big fight did not happen until the last episode with Robert Reed. After that episode was filmed and aired, Paramount was done with the drama and declining ratings so it was announced after the season it would not be renewed. I remember hearing from the actors during hiatus when they got the call the show was cancelled.

The dark haired girl who Peter danced with in the den played Violet Beauregard in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
