After the end of his stint on Shortland Street, Apa was cast on a New Zealand young adult series, The Cul de Sac. He left the series after its first season, when he became a regular on Riverdale.
Apa made his feature film debut in 2017 in A Dog’s Purpose, playing Dennis Quaid’s character as a teenager. He then had a supporting role in The Hate U Give, and was part of the ensemble cast of the rom-com The Last Summer.
In 2020, Apa starred as contemporary Christian singer Jeremy Camp in the romantic drama/biopic I Still Believe. The film reunited him with his A Dog’s Purpose costar Britt Robertson. He also starred in the thriller Dead Reckoning and the sci-fi film Songbird. There have been a few rumors of his involvement in future projects, but nothing solid.
