Is there a source or does anyone know which network season had the most sitcoms and which had the fewest?
For the fewest, I think NBC 1972-73 might qualify with just 2:
Sanford and Son and the Little People
(UPN's first season only had 2 sitcoms as well: Pigsty and Platypus Man according to this site:

I'm not sure which network season had the most, but ABC 1979-80 had a lot (about 18 I think including shows that ran just a handful of episodes- they had 2 hour blocks of comedies on four nights plus shows that either started in midseason or were cancelled midyear)
