I think I see Beaver taking a step back and allowing the show to be more about Wally. More of a supporting role.

I think in Mathers' book, he says he was ready to move on (to real-world high school).

So it's plausible that the star or more likely his agent could have spoken to the producers about diminishing his role.

How many of the season 6 show based around Beaver vs the number that based around Wally or one of his friends?

In season 6 I count:

16 Wally
20 Beaver
3 Both

That's a lot of Wally, considering the show title. And it does show a real skew his way.
