Rice was ousted this morning as chairman of Disney General Entertainment, which makes more than 300 shows annually for ABC, Disney Channel, Disney+, Hulu and FX. Rice, who came to Disney from the Fox merge was seen as a potential successor to Disney CEO Bob Chapek. Instead, Chapek fired him, with sources telling The New York Times he was an ill fit for Disney's culture.. Rice will be replaced by his lieutenant, Dana Walden, who has been chairwoman for entertainment for Walt Disney Television.

Peter Rice was reportedly ousted from Disney in part for renewing The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and Big Shot (https://awfulannouncing.com/disney/mighty-ducks-big-shot-disney-exec-peter-rice.html)

An anonymous Disney official tells the Wall Street Journal (https://www.wsj.com/articles/disney-ceo-bob-chapek-supported-peter-rice-until-he-didnt-11655165544) that the two Disney+ shows were an examples of Disney's former top TV executive, who was abruptly fired last Thursday, clashing with the financial side of Disney. "A senior Disney official cited Mr. Rice’s decision to renew two struggling shows on the Disney+ streaming service—The Mighty Ducks and Big Shot—as examples of questionable deal-making," reports The Journal's Joe Flint. "Both shows cost more than $50 million and neither had shown the type of success that merited additional seasons, this official said. But people familiar with Mr. Rice’s thinking countered that the shows were renewed in part because the Covid-19 pandemic had made it challenging to develop and produce new programming and both were well reviewed."
