this is for a project I'm working on. I'm trying to make a short film that I plan to expand later so here it is:

1. What makes a show interesting to you?

2. Do you like shows that have one main character or a main character with others to share the spotlight?

3. Should comedies stay in the whole joking matter or should they get a little serious at times?

4. What ethnic background would you like to see more of? ( I know I get tired of seeing alot of similar people but it's nice things are away from the blonde hair blue eyes mold)

5. What do you think makes things go down hill?

6. Extra information (comments,advice etc) :

I hope it doesn't matter that I don't watch too many new shows.

1. What makes a show interesting to you? A combo of things. Good Actors and a funny show that can be funny at times but can be serious during other times.

2. Do you like shows that have one main character or a main character with others to share the spotlight? I think I like it better when a main character with others to share the spotlight. It's very rare that I like a show that is focused on one main character in every episode. I think it just adds humor to a show to have the interaction with other cast members.

3. Should comedies stay in the whole joking matter or should they get a little serious at times? One of my favorite shows (All in the Family) did both. I liked it when they were joking, but the writers of AITF could also write a serious plot line too. AITF was one of the ground breakers because of the fact that it hit some subjects. You had divorce, homosexuality, bigotry, among others and most of the serious story lines could really bring a tear to your eyes.

4. What ethnic background would you like to see more of? ( I know I get tired of seeing alot of similar people but it's nice things are away from the blonde hair blue eyes mold) I would like to just see a variety. I am sick of the blonde hair, blue eyes, size 2 kind of molding too.

5. What do you think makes things go down hill? Milking the dead cow and adding new characters/characters leaving. I can't tell you how many shows that I like that were fresh when they started out, but somebody kept milking that old money cow trying to make it still be fresh. The cow dies after awhile. Another thing that makes the show go down hill is one of the main stars leaving that really adds chemistry to the show. Off the top of my head I can name Barney Fife, Mike and Gloria Stivic, Darrin # 1. All of the above characters added something to their shows. When Barney Fife left 'The Andy Griffith Show', I thought they milked the cow a bit too long after he left. JMO. I don't like when they add new characters (mostly kids) or replace an actor (2 Darrin's) When you deal with a show that centers on young kids, it just seems that every time the kids reach a certain age they add a baby to the cast to make it still look fresh. Doesn't always work.

6. Extra information (comments,advice etc)

Good Luck on the project!!!!!!! How about making a list of the most watched tv shows? Would that help any? It could be a comparison of whether people like classic or the new sitcom? I have no idea how to word it, but I'll put a list of my favorite shows just in case you do want to use the idea.

The Twilight Zone
Batman
All in the Family
Sanford and Son
The Andy Griffith Show
Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C
Diff'rent Strokes
Leave it to Beaver
The Facts of Life

Thank you so much. I'm going to keep that stuff in mind. Hopefully one day I can actually use it. I wrote the first page of it. I'm very picky ,I write it by hand first and that hurts and I make alot of mistakes so I made 2 version of the first page. I think when I'm done I'll let it stay as it is and maybe go from there later. Again thanks.

P.S. There's nothing wrong with classics. I watch more oldies than new ones when I can. Nice list of shows. Glad you added Leave It To Beaver

This oughta be fun. :)

1. What makes a show interesting to you?- Well, I watch a lot of shows for the people in them, so certain actors make them interesting. Good solid plot lines...not just a show full of one-liners.

2. Do you like shows that have one main character or a main character with others to share the spotlight?- Either. I think I've liked both.

3. Should comedies stay in the whole joking matter or should they get a little serious at times?- Definitely mix it up. Solid comedy just gets stale and repetitive. I'm a big fan of dramadies.

4. What ethnic background would you like to see more of? ( I know I get tired of seeing alot of similar people but it's nice things are away from the blonde hair blue eyes mold)- Latinos I guess.

5. What do you think makes things go down hill?- Using the same gag over and over and over. I Love Lucy did that. You have to occassionally introduce new challenges, new people, etc.

6. Extra information (comments, advice etc) : I liked Jenny's idea about all your favorite shows. Here's all my favorites over the years (sitcoms, dramas, cartoons, etc.)

Sitcoms-
I Love Lucy
I Dream of Jeannie

1. What makes a show interesting to you? It has to be really funny. It also has to have something that the characters have worked for and they get at the end. Such as Jeannie and Tony getting married in the last season. Also I like shows that are old. Or that use retro ideas.

2. Do you like shows that have one main character or a main character with others to share the spotlight? I like shows that have one main character but has others also to share the spotlight.

3. Should comedies stay in the whole joking matter or should they get a little serious at times? I don't think they should get to serious. But mabye a little seriousness then make someone say a joke.

4. What ethnic background would you like to see more of? ( I know I get tired of seeing alot of similar people but it's nice things are away from the blonde hair blue eyes mold) Mabye more Native Americans and people that aren't a size 2 like Jenny said.

5. What do you think makes things go down hill?Well I think shows go down hill when they change a major character, stop being funny, or just run out of things to do.

6. Extra information (comments, advice etc) : I'll list my favorite shows.

Sitcoms
1. I Dream of Jeannie
2. I Love Lucy
3. Golden Girls
4. Bewitched
5. Mama's Family

1. 7th Heaven
2. The Dukes of Hazzard
3. Hart to Hart

Soaps
1. Days of our Lives

Thank you both. I try to add some humor but I don't know how to start my whole thing off. I don't want to try too hard for jokes but I'm working on it. Thanks

One more question:

7. What do you think is funny? (sarcasm, physical comedy etc)

1. What makes a show interesting to you?
I think a show is interesting when the episodes sometimes reflect things that happen to everyday people, but always make some kind of unreal element in some others.

2. Do you like shows that have one main character or a main character with others to share the spotlight?
Hmmm......Ensemble casts are great, but only in 1950s-early 1990s. Ensembles like "Three's Company" and "Welcome Back, Kotter" were great. But current ensembles such as "Friends" and "Will & Grace" are very boring, imo. Casts that have one main character are also great, because their are supporting characters who come in at awkward times and interacting with the main characters.

3. Should comedies stay in the whole joking matter or should they get a little serious at times?
I'm 100% for more joking. Seriousness is OK, but I would have a problem if EVERY episode of a sitcom deals with serious things like rape, murder, theft, prostitution, child pornography, death, etc, it'd be a huge snooze fest for me. Maybe 2 or 3 episodes in each season could be serious, while the others are jokey.

4. What ethnic background would you like to see more of? ( I know I get tired of seeing alot of similar people but it's nice things are away from the blonde hair blue eyes mold)
I'll like to see equal numbers. So many shows have one black cast member. Look at "Benson" (well the black guy was the star). What I love is "Welcome Back, Kotter." We got a Puerto Rican Jew, an African American, an Italian, and someone who is just a little bit weird.

5. What do you think makes things go down hill?

I'll follow the boat:

Sitcoms:
Three's Company, Mary Hartman, Mama's Family, Kate & Allie, Laverne and Shirley, Facts of Life, Welcome Back Kotter, Donna Reed, Flying Nun, Diffrent Strokes, Love Boat, Burns and Allen, Hazel, Father Knows Best, many more

Dramas:
Charlie's Angels, Murder She Wrote, Magnum PI, Dallas, CHiPS, Hart to Hart, Twilight Zone,

Soaps:
All My Children, Dark Shadows, General Hospital

Game Shows:
Match Game (1973-82)
Family Feud (1976-85, 1988-94)
Super Password

Verbal humor. Not really a string of one-liners, but subtle funny things that people say.

Irony is also funny.

I've gotten tired of physical comedy.

I like situation comedy. I don't like the jokes just flying in from all directions. My answer is pretty much like Cathy's. Actually, its just like Cathy's so I'll just say ditto.

1. Chemistry between the actors. Even if they dont really get along behind the scenes, if they can totally ACT like friends, its a good chemistry. I like any show that can keep me hooked. I tend to flee towards comedies, especially classic comedies. Whatever all those people did to 60s and 70's shows, did something good, and they still cant get the right blend of it for todays shows.
2. I like the whole cast to kind of be a part of it, but I usually like it focused on just a small group (1-4 people) For example- The Facts Of Life...they got rid of so many girls and the 4 that stayed on are the most popular...especially Jo, the newest one.
3. I like shows to be funny at all times. Im not a stickler for tear jerkers, but if its my FAVORITE show, I love a little emotions here and there. But they shouldnt stray from the comedy roots.
4. I dont care. If they can keep me entertained, I dont care! They shouldnt make a show for a person because hes black and they want more black people on TV....make it for him because hes ENTERTAINING. Although, I would like to see more of us brunettes instead of blondes! lol :p
5. CAST CHANGES! When someone leaves a show (Ron Howard, Don Knotts, The Ropers, or anyone of big importance) the show just goes down the tubes. I also HATE it when they add stupid babys to the show then are 5 yrs old next season. I could not STAND: Nicky and Alex from Full House, that kid on Family Ties, Olivia on Cosby--Rudy was so much cuter!, the baby on Boy Meets World, the girl on Step by Step...it never ends!! The only one who never seemed to bug me that much was Little Ricky, but thats because he was never a STAR on the show, yeah he had his episodes, but the show wasnt revolved around him. Plus, the show was still VERY good in ratings, so it wasnt like they needed him, besides Lucy was pregnant!

Good Luck on your project!!

I think they should mix it up because it becomes a lot more interesting.

It really doesn't matter to me.

5. What do you think makes things go down hill? Cast changes, running out of ideas, using the same plot over and over again, remakes.

7. What do you think is funny? (sarcasm, physical comedy etc) I think the sarcasm, the physical comedy, and the jokes are funny.
