A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin gives his perspective on the overwhelming Game of Thrones season 8 backlash from fans.

George R.R. Martin has spoken very fondly on how the Marist Brothers, his teachers at Marist High School in Bayonne, N.J., encouraged, inspired and helped to prepare him to be a successful writer.

Apparently, after having resided in affluent and upscale Santa Fe, N.M. for several years, Mr. Martin has forgotten his humble beginnings in Bayonne, and, more importantly, the people there, who helped him to achieve his great literary success.

When Marist High School was experiencing severe financial difficulties, many alumni contributed to help keep the school open. Unfortunately, Mr. Martin was not one of them. Sadly, after over sixty years of providing outstanding academic and Roman Catholic instruction, Marist High School was forced to close its doors permanently in 2020.

Perhaps Mr. Martin, in an effort to express his great appreciation, might still want to contribute to the retirement fund for those wonderful and selfless Marist Brothers, who were so instrumental in Mr. Martin’s early development as a skilled writer. No doubt, the check will be “in the mail” from Santa Fe.
