Which show do like better. The Addam's family or the New Addam's family?

Oh, I really prefer the original series. But I liked the New Addams Family well enough.

Most of the episodes in the new series were remakes of the original anyway, with some changes here and there.

Wednesday in the "New" show was more like the character as portrayed by Christina Ricci in the movies. She is older and bolder than Pugsley. Lisa Loring's Wednesday in the original was very young. Though I thought Lisa was adorable, the older Wednesday in the new version was wonderful.

I liked the "New" Pugsley better, but probably because I never much liked Ken Weatherwax's Pugsley.

I much preferred the adult actors in the original. In the "New" series I did like Morticia, but not as well as I liked Carolyn Jones in the original. The rest of the new adult cast was not much to my liking. But I did like having John Astin in a few eps as Grandfather.

The original! A no-brainer!

The new one couldn't compare! Just didn't have that powerhouse quality...

I enjoyed the new series, but I really have to go with the original.

Anyone who thinks the new one is better than the old one should take a cue from Uncle Fester and put there head in a vice.

I agree! I don't like remakes of hit TV shows or movies. Some that I thought were terrible:

The Addams Family (of course!)
The Beverly Hillbillies
The Avengers
The Nutty Professor
Lost in Space
Leave it to Beaver
Charlie's Angels

The new show, to me, just didn't have that "Addams' feel" to it. It completly lost what, I thought, the Addams' Family stood for! There was a theme it seems the Addams Family had and that was we shouldn't judge those who are different b/c they can be REALLY nice people, AND it also themed that EVERYONE has the right to do their own thing and live their life ANY way they choose as long as they arn't harming anyone else. But all this was totaly lost in the new show. I mean the old show was about toodstools, witches and goblins but the new ones are about bombing the nursing home and crap like that. And that scene where Gomes had a church scene set up and wrecked it, what the hell was that all about!? The Addams Family was NOT like that!!

As far as characters, most of them sucked.
Why did "Uncle" Fester become Gomez's "younger" brother? In the old show he was more like a cranky old man and interacted better with Mama b/c she was more like a counterpart to him but here he's like a big kid, and it seems like Mama puts him down more than conspiring with him.
I didn't have a problem really with Fester being Gomez's brother, but why couldn't he have been his OLDER brother like in the movie atleast!?

Thing out of the box sucked, it takes the WHOLE "mystery" of Thing and the boxes away, b/c obviously on the old show he was MORE than just a hand, and you always wondered what he was like beyond the box and where the boxes lead and it's like they lead to an alt. deminsion, that interesting concept was totaly gone!

Since when did Pugsley become such a pushover!??! In the old show HE was more the leader and bossed Wednesday around, the REAL Pugsley would have NEVER taken all that crap from her!

And why did the cute meek Wednesday turn into Satan's daughter?? And why did Pugsley turn into such a pushover who NEVER takes his part!

Gomez, Mama, and Itt were the best, they were more like their old counterparts, especially Gomez,, Everytime I watched Glenn Toranto it is a "John Astin" nostalgia trip.
But as for the others, it almost seemed like they were making fun of their old counterparts rather than trying to portray them!

There is no doubt that the original is better, but I think you're being a bit harsh with the new version. I think it still had the same feel as the original in its core meaning.

The original had the family doing destuctive things such as Fester wanting to shoot people in the back and the various instuments of torture. There were mentions of suicide and killing other people, but this was all done so tounge and cheek that it wasn't offensive, just funny. The original couldn't get away with any more than that at that time because it was the 60's.

As for Wendsday and Pugsley, I think they were much more interesting in the new series. While I love Lisa Loring and Ken Weatherwax, they were always doing the same things all the time. The new series modled Wednsday after Christina Ricci's portrayal of her, because she did such a great job with that role, people just couldn't imagine Wednsday any other way from now on.

And I hardly think that John Astin would have appeared on the show twice if he thought that this new series was not worthy or completely wrong compared to the original.

With the newer version, 90's TV had allowed them to go a bit further with the implied violence. They were still good people who never really harmed anyone. I think they did a very good job reviving it, of course nothing can compare to the original.

The Original. This is the one I remember watching as a child, and seeing it remade was too bizarre. It would be like remaking I love Lucy. What a bummer deal that would be.

I never saw the new 1 so I don't know!!!! I wanted 2 but my stupid dad was always watching space freak movies!!! i have a question, though. Was John DeSantis any good as Lurch?;)
