I was just wondering what everyone thought of this.Do you think Cheers would survive in today's sitcom world.

It most certainly would. The material isnt dated, and if it was a fresh idea brought up in 2002 it would be the same success it was 20 years ago. It might even be a bigger success due to the lack of other big time adult sitcoms around now.

I think it would not only survive, but flourish today. I think that Cheers would have been a success no matter when it aired. I think the reason it was such a smash is because it is something that everyone can relate to. No matter who you are, there is someone at Cheers that you can identify with. People are drawn to things that they can relate to. It is a people show, and those will always be successes. However, you would have to have the same cast that Cheers had. I think that the cast had an outstanding chemistry.....Ted and Shelley, Bebe and Kelsey. And not just the couples, but everyone in general fit together well. Classic.

Not too many other sitcoms nowadays are as witty and cleverly written as Cheers was. It would definitly flourish today as it did back in the 80's and mid 90's.

yea, i think it would, but i bet it would have to go through SOME changes, but nothing too major.

what I WOULD wonder, is if it was still going today, what would it be like? lessee...This year, 2002, it would be in its 20th (!!!) season. the music would have 2 b updated, some characters would have 2 b changed by now...im sure the picture quality would b much better by now(compared to the actual, unremastered original show).

think about it...i guess the "Cheers is filmed before a live studio audience" would still be there, but with new, nicer shots of the Cheers sign. all other exterior shots would b new and nicer too. I bet the theme pictures would b redone again, if not the recording too. the cast would be, in starring order...um, Woody Harrelson, Jackie Swanson(Kelly, Woody's wife), Kirstie Alley, Rhea Perlman, a new character(??? a new, serious love interest for Carla?), John Ratzenberger, Tom Berenger(Don, Rebecca's husband), With George Wendt, And Bernadette Birkett(Vera!).

Kelsey and Bebe would have still gone off after season 11 to start the spinoff Frasier, but Bebe would have a much larger part from day 1. Ted still would have left after season 11.

Woody would b the star, with his wife Kelly, manager Rebecca, waitress Carla, and her new love interest all working at the bar. Cliff and Norm would still b stuck to their barstools, and Don would end up buying Melville's above. We finally get to see Vera's face, but i guess there would still be a joke. Vera would become a regular, but Norm and Vera would never be in the bar at the same time, always missing each other.

how bout that for a 20th season?? lol
