We have a doctor here in our town who does Prolotherapy work which can keep a person from doing joint replacements (this is major work) not a piece of cake or walk in the park like the docs want people to think. I've done some Prolo over the years and it's out of pocket therapy.
Anyway, the MD constantly talks about extra weight and the toll our joints can take. Always talks about protein, veggies and water.
Personally to keep the weight down I removed all breads from my house, I don't need bread and can get along fine without them. They are big weight gainers....I kinda look at them as dead food.
I have been eating some thin crust pizza lately and I believe it's causing my blood sugars to rise.
There is so much to consider in the foods that heal or kill.
It takes discipline and commitment and yes one can give themselves some "treats" now and then.
biffbronson 05-25-2022, 11:29 AM I couldn't go without breads, which is very typical for Greek-Americans like me. They're as essential to me as any other food. The Food Network calls the no-carb trend "total nonsense." You're going to get varying opinions, so whatever works for you obviously is the way to go.

Oh yes you could go without bread....If you want to you can, anyone can. It's dead food, a filler and can increase blood sugar.
I've heard your comment from others on the bread issue, it's addiction, and I was born into an Italian family and bread was ALWAYS in our lives. My sister had an addiction to carbs/sugar and it helped to damage her more with her MS disease, she's gone now.
My upstairs neighbor was hit with RA and after that Pulmonary disease and she was addicted to breads and I would tell her about it for her health issues and she didn't want to hear, she passed away recently in her early 70's...
Oh yes foods and heal or kill.
And I remember not that long ago that restaurants would have baskets of rolls, bread, bread sticks and the people would scarf up all that dead food and in recent years that has disappeared, around here anyway. One could leave a restaurant with like 3000 calories added to their bodies...
dakert 05-25-2022, 05:07 PM Thank you for the ideas. I rarely eat bread so cutting that out is easy
Caroline13 05-25-2022, 07:31 PM For those who truly care about foods and health, here is some scientific info on Glycemic Foods and also breads....
For me it was to just quit it, as I said I don't need that type filler...

"While a small percentage of the population may need to avoid bread due to health conditions, eating whole wheat bread has been associated with a number of health benefits. For most people, it’s an excellent choice for boosting whole grain intake."

Fine, you do what you do and I do what I do. I believe the main reason I got off bread (wheat) and tried to go to breads that are gluten free was due to the wheat allergy issue. I found gluten free breads I tried too dense and so I said "oh forget it, just quit bread"... same with cookies, pies, cakes etc......
dakert 05-26-2022, 09:51 AM Speaking of bread I heard Rye bread was the best to eat
Caroline , what do you know about eggs? for years they told us to not eat many but I went to a diabetic nutritionist and she made it sound like it didn't matter how many eggs a person ate. So now I eat about one hard boiled egg a day

I've heard so many pros/cons on eggs and I hear Dr. Joel Wallach and he's a huge proponent and especially the soft yolk egg, he eats quite a few a day and he's also a major believer that gluten is the devil. Read up on him, he's been around a long time preaching good health and he's in his 80's and goes like the energizer bunny. One of his first big books was: Dead Doctors Don't Lie....I believe that's the title.
Some days I eat 2 soft yolk eggs over some beans or my morning chili....yummmmmyyy
And on the weight loss issue, look at your portions.....are you a big guy and need more or not so...drink more water that is a healthy filler.
Caroline13 06-01-2022, 07:17 PM Just scored on finding Amy's Organic soups at Amazon for like $2.69 a can, the price for Amy's is always higher and with what we are going thru, the price has gone even higher. I had to buy 12 cans but my friend here will take 4 cans and that makes me feel good, to give something to him, he helps me a lot. My supermarket has gone up to close to $5 a can. Forget that.
