Hi,

I came across UM a couple years ago on Amazon Prime and fell in love with it. After learning that the episodes had been butchered on Prime that included the exclusion of several segments. I went out of my way to obtain as many segments that I could.

I currently have in my possession:
The CrystalDawn Bootleg Set.
The Ultimate Collection DVD Set.
Several Misc. Episodes WOC.

Is there any segments/episodes that can't be found in any capacity? That aren't included in the CrystalDawn set, any DVD or any original VHS recording of the show?.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

The original full airings of September 6, 1989 & September 13, 1989 have never turned up in trading circles to my knowledge. However, all the segments from those are available in one form or another. The Todd McAfee segment from 9-6-89 turned up on youtube years ago & that seems to have been the only way it has been passed around. Season 8 & 9 original episodes are also out there but very hard to track down compared to earlier years. Pretty much all of the segments are out there from those season though except maybe some special alerts that only appeared in original airings on NBC.

The spin off "Final Appeal: From the Files of Unsolved Mysteries" only had 6 episodes made but some of those have never turned up. I know of 3 that I have been shared in the community. I believe that those cases were all profiled on the Dennis Farina version of UM though.

I have a long term project underway to create an archive of the original series for historical preservation and research reasons, and a key step in that process is determining what episodes are truly lost media.

Determining this is far from easy, as there are episodes that some people claim they have but no independent verification exists. Moreover, I strongly suspect the re-releases contain edits in the segments that are going to be difficult to find without the originals as a point of comparison.

Nevertheless, my short term goal is to create a relational database of episodes and segments to make tracking all this much easier.

I'd love to have the missing segments. I was given a bunch on files, but my old laptop died, taking the episodes with it. 😫
