David Boreanaz is turning 53 today. Boreanaz was born in Buffalo, and attended Ithaca College in New York. He began acting in the early 1990s, appearing in uncredited bit parts in a few films and a guest role on Married…with Children.
However, Boreanaz was still a complete unknown when, in 1997, he landed the TV role that made him famous. He was cast in what was initially a recurring role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But beginning with the second season, Angel, the vampire cursed by having his human soul restored, became a regular.

Buffyverse fans can tell you the rest. After season 3 of Buffy, Boreanaz became the star of the spinoff series Angel, which ran until 2004. He also made his directing debut on Angel, and returned to Buffy for a few guest appearances.
During Angel’s run, Boreanaz began trying to build a feature film career. His first major film role was the 2001 slasher movie Valentine, a modest financial success but a critical flop. He went on to star in rom-coms such as I’m With Lucy and Mr. Fix It, and the heist film The Hard Easy. But his only feature in the last decade was the direct-to-video thriller Officer Down.
But while his big screen career went nowhere, Boreanaz became a fixture in prime time. In 2005, he was cast in the role of FBI Agent Seeley Booth on Bones. The Fox police procedural series was adapted loosely from the novels of Kathy Reichs. Bones ran for 12 seasons. When its run ended, Boreanaz began starring on CBS’s military drama SEAL Team, which was recently renewed for a sixth season.
