Because there’s no way a straight woman her age would have a harbored crush on her next door neighbor for over 20 years and express her feelings by winking at him or taking off her glasses. Also, why was she so damn afraid to speak to a man? Even Aunt Fran would tell her to “knock it off.” :lol:

Iola was probably in her 40s but still had the mentality of a child in many ways... obviously by how she dressed, so it's not out of the realm of possibility she was subtle when expressing her feelings to Vint. I just think she was very sheltered... In the later episodes Iola having a crush on Vint seemed to dissipate

I agree. It was also in how she was brought up.
Iola seemed to have "old-fashioned" values and that showed itself in her behavior and even style of dress.
And there is nothing wrong with that.:)

I think most ALL the characters dressed like they were in the 1950s lol, I've actually heard ppl say they thought the show took place in the 50s!! I thought even Ellen's clothes were a couple of decades out of date, even as "with-it" as she was
