Because in the second episode of the first season we see Vint escort Naomi to the basement, leading to the two sharing a kiss. However, in the Season 6 episode, “War of The Roses”, Vint and Naomi go to the Java Hut out on Route 5, to celebrate “their first kiss”, since that’s where they had it.

I don’t know if this is a retcon or maybe the writers forgot.

In the first episode when Vint moves in with the kids, Naomi comes over to complain about Mama not trimming her trees that are leaving sap on her (Naomi's) car. Naomi sees Vint and Vint talks about how she was the prettiest girl in school and the best cheerleader. Then Naomi performs her old high school cheer that both of them know the words to. So it is very clear in that episode that they did go to high school together.

According to their ages they couldn't have gone to high school together, unless Vint was a teacher lol It was stated that Vint was 45 in one episode, where Vint thought he was adopted, and I'm pretty sure Naomi was supposed to be in her 30s.

But anyway, even according to the first episode, where they supposedly DID go to high school together, they never dated, Vint said he had a secret crush on Naomi

Yeah I know but why did Vint look so much older than Naomi in syndication and why was it said that their first kiss was at the Java Hut when we saw them lock lips on the basement?

Them going to high school was never mentioned in syndication so I always thought that detail was erased.

Maybe when Vint was a senior in 12th grade Naomi was a freshman in 9th grade. Vint does look older than Naomi.

In the later syndicated episodes Vint looks like he's approaching 60 to me, I THINK Ken Berry was in his early 50s at the time

According to the flashback, Sins of a Mother, Vint looks noticeably older than Iola as children, I always thought they were about the same age

Which is why it looks silly for him and Naomi to be having a child when Vint looked like he had a GROWN child that was having a child

That's certainly possible.
Also, we all know that Vinton isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. It is also possible that he was held back a grade... or 5.;)

Agree ... it just got tougher as the years went on to make Ken Berry, or even Betty White for that matter, look younger than their actual ages.
Ken Berry was more than 13 years older than Dorothy Lyman; he was born in 1933, she was born in 1947. And by the time the final seasons rolled around, in and out of the show universe, Ken certainly was old enough to be a grandfather. So was Vint, considering Buzz and Sonya would have been of parental age by then too.

It was confirmed in the episode “Bubba’s Double Date” that Vint and Naomi going to high school was retconned out of existence. Naomi asked when did Vint ever date Bobbi Jean Kerkle and Vinton responded, “Before I met you”. That is not the response of someone who went to school with his wife and had a crush on her. I’m pretty sure it was implied that Vinton met Naomi later in life.

As far as Vint's age.... I'm pretty sure we're supposed to suspend disbelief... I mean it's pretty obvious he's older than 40ish, but I think we're just supposed to go with it.

But yeah I think the history in the syndicated episodes is changed from the NBC episodes.

I think one of the biggest change is the bedroom situation. In the NBC episodes there are 3 bedroom upstairs; Mama's, Fran's, and Sonya's and Buzz had a bedroom in the attic. Sonya's bedroom was Eunice and Ellen's former bedroom so I'm assuming Fran's room used to be Vint's room.

In the syndicated episodes there are only 2 bedrooms upstairs; Mama's and Bubba's and I'm assuming in this reality that Bubba's room, which was formerly Fran's was PROBABLY formerly Eunice and Ellen's. And it seems like Vint had been sleeping in the basement all his life, even as a child, it's just the impression I got.... Perhaps when Vint was REALLY young he shared a room with Eunice and Ellen ~opposite sex children all sharing a room did happen quite a bit I've heard in those days~ then as Vint got older maybe he moved down to the basement

Vinton should’ve been about 40 in the NBC years, the thing is: I don’t think his age ever changed. Even during the syndication years (he was de-aged a bit once Buzz and Sonya were retconned anyway). He obviously wasn’t around the same age that Ken Berry was at the time. And boy, was Vint one rough looking 40 year old.

As for Naomi, I think she was supposed to be about 35 as of Season 3.

I'm pretty sure Vint was mentioned as being 45 in the season 3 episode where he thought he was adopted. I mean I MIGHT could buy 45, if I can buy Archie and Edith were in their 40s when All in the Family began... I would have assumed early 60s! lol Archie and Edith always reminded me of my grandparents when I was little and they were in their 60s at the time
