View Full Version : Did you ever notice?
BestTVever 05-03-2022, 06:54 AM This is a fun thread of oddities of different episodes that you notice. Here are a few.
Did you ever notice.....
In Mail Order Hero when Bobby is playing football in the back yard they take a break to get a drink from the hose. The hose is real and pumps water. Bobby's friend goes for a drink but he holds the hose several inches from his mouth and only pretends to get a drink.
In Sleepover Caper Robert Reed's daughter discovers a big hairy spider gag in her sleeping bag. Alice announces hot dogs and all the girls run over to get one. Reed's daughter gets a hot dog and pretends to take a bite. The hot dog is inches away from her mouth but she pretends to bite it while she is walking over to her sleeping bag and discovers the spider.
In Try Try again, the opening shows Cindy and Jan dancing with ballet dancers. But Marcia is not seen yet she is in the same recital practice as Cindy. Later after the recital they are at the kitchen table with Alice making them hot chocolate. We see some liquid come out of the pot into the cups. Shortly after Cindy is not holding her cup steady and you can see there is nothing in the cup and its empty. She is pretending to drink from an obvious empty cup.
Earlier in the same episode Jan is tap dancing in the bathroom and something falls off the shelf and breaks. No way tap dancing could rattle a wall where something would fall off the shelf. You see the shelf move as if there was an earthquake.
In Out of this world Greg creates a UFO and uses a plastic screen to shine the light on which creates the UFO. How come Bobby and Peter never saw the plastic screen or the cables that went from the attic to the back yard. Very similar to Fright Night. How did the boys not see an extension cord coming from the trunk in the attic.
In the Babysitters Mike and Carol leave dinner to check on the kids yet they dont go inside the house (until they are busted). They sneak around back to investigate a smoke smell and about to leave until Alice shows up. What's the point of staying outside. How do you check on your kids by not making contact with them. Its not until the police show up they are busted and go inside.
Earlier in the same episode, Mike and Carol are leaving for dinner the same time Sam shows up to pick up Alice. However Sam never comes in the house and keeps honking the horn. How rude. He keeps honking the horn like crazy when Alice is getting cold feet about leaving the kids. I guess they did not want to pay Sam for his appearance LOL
This is just for fun thread. What other oddities have you noticed.
Dude111 05-03-2022, 04:28 PM Wow I dont think I have seen that babysitter episode! (I dont remember one where the police find them outside)
Good noticing my friend!!!
Tankeryanker 05-03-2022, 05:55 PM The Babysitter episode is one of my favorites.
I guess the parents thought that if they could peek through the windows and see if the kids were still alive that would be good enough. They were sort of trying to let the kids grow up and going into the house would show the kids that they did not have faith in them? That's my thoughts.
Dude111 05-04-2022, 01:45 AM I would love seeing it now :)

damon strong 05-25-2022, 10:58 AM In the episode where Jan got glasses, and Alice pretended to have a toothache by sticking bubble gum in her cheek. Carol was taking Alice to the dentist, but wouldn't the dentist have been able to tell there was nothing wrong with Alice's tooth and known the swelling in her mouth was fake?
In the Davy Jones episode, a big music star was in the recording studio and Marcia was just able to walk in off the street and enter the recording studio.
In the episode where Tiger stole Alice's registered letter, Cindy saw Tiger take the letter and go hide in his doghouse, but she just let on that she didn't know where it was. Why at some point didn't Cindy go into the backyard when nobody else was around and crawl into Tiger's doghouse and retrieve the letter? Instead, she just acted as though she knew nothing. In the same episode, Alice was counting jellybeans and placing them into a glass bowl. She was up to over 4,000 and lost her count. It was obvious that there were nowhere near 4,000 jellybeans in that bowl.

The swelling tooth was only a ruse to fool Mrs Brady. Alice did go to the dentist for a cleaning because at the end of the episode she reveals the dentist found 4 cavities. The ruse was not to fool the dentist.

I am assuming that Alice already had an appointment for the cleaning, but she and Mr. Brady called it an emergency otherwise Mrs. Brady would wonder why Alice didn't take the bus like she normally did.
Which then makes me ask, wasn't Alice good enough to get a ride from the Brady's for a cleaning? Taking the bus would be a pain. If you are good enough to sleep under the same roof, aren't you good enough to get a ride 2-3 times a year for good oral health?

I would have posted a response like this if I had gotten around to it first. Very logical thinking on your part.

This is probably the episode where she is being called out for tattling. Since she didn't go out and retrieve the letter, why would she consider it tattling to inform the adults that Tiger took the letter? Would a kid that age be silly enough to worry about "telling" on a dog?
damon strong 06-01-2022, 10:10 AM In the episode with Peter's erupting volcano, the group of girls got covered in mud. Peter was standing just as close to the volcano, but didn't get a trace of mud on himself.
biffbronson 06-01-2022, 11:18 AM That's an interesting observation on the volcano, thanks for adding that...!
One scene I always find distracting is in the Season 1 episode "54-50 and Fight," when the house of cards is built. People have noticed that Jan's hairstyle changes along with the camera shots. Really obvious when you know about it.
damon strong 06-08-2022, 07:45 AM After the kids gave Alice the cold shoulder and she quit to go work at the diner, where did she go to live? Did she just hurry and rent an apartment and then cancel her lease after she quit the diner to return to the Bradys? She would have had no furniture, etc. I don't recall it being mentioned.

Good point. We see her at Kaye's apartment so maybe she was living there. But it is never mentioned. Robert Reed refused to appear in this episode because he found it too unbelievable the kids would ever do this to Alice
BestTVever 06-09-2022, 07:19 AM No toilet is ever seen. That is widely known. However we do hear a toilet flush in the episode "My Brother's Keeper." Peter and Bobby are fighting and divide the room. Bobby reminds Peter that the bathroom is on his side of the room and walks into the bathroom and the toilet flushes.
Its funny how TV was evolving during this time. All In The Family broke the norms. When the Brady Bunch started it was taboo to show a toilet. All In The Family was the first TV show to air a toilet flush. It was comedic gold. So a few years later the Brady Bunch also added their toilet flush for comedy.
Dude111 06-09-2022, 08:04 AM Why a big deal about the bathroom??
We all use it :D
Chocolate Moose 06-09-2022, 09:23 AM gosh, i remember that flush!!!!
damon strong 06-16-2022, 02:53 PM In the Hawaii episode, when Greg wiped out on his surfboard, Mike and Carol pulled him out of the water, and when it showed them walking out of the water, the Brady kids and Alice came running from a completely different direction to meet them. They had been right on the shore where Greg wiped out before that.

The psycho in the cave abducted and tied up the Brady Boys and all Mr Brady did was tell him..."You have a lot of explaining to do" They never called the police just like when the bandit locked them in a prison cell and stole their car on the way to the Grand Canyon. The Bradys were very forgiving when on vacation
damon strong 06-27-2022, 10:31 AM In the Season 4 episode where Marcia started her first day in high school, all the students walking around outside carried books in their arms, including Greg who was escorting Marcia around. The only thing Marcia carried was a purse. She had no books with her.

Logical explanation:
It was Marcia's first day of high school so she would have no books. The first day of school was the day before when Marcia pretended to be sick. It was the second day of school so the kids naturally would have books.

But when the bell rang, Marcia got all panicky and asked Greg, "Is that the bell for first class?" Greg responded that it was only a warning bell, indicating that first class was close to starting. Marcia SHOULD have had books with her. Nobody goes to class with no books.

Where would she have gotten her books if she had not been to school yet? If she had gone the day before, then yes, she would have had books.

No one has books on the first day of school. They get assigned the first day. I noticed you are in Canada so maybe things are done different there. Public schools in the United States give books out the first day of school and you return them the last day of school. College is different where you buy your own books and bring them the first day. Since it was her first day of school (missing the first day), she would have no books and not be familiar with the bell system. These tiny details are very accurate how things would have played out.
damon strong 06-30-2022, 09:31 AM In the episode "Fright Night" Mike and Carol came home with the bust of Mike and he placed in on top of the bannister. Alice walloped it with her handbag and somehow the pieces all landed halfway across the living room, all gathered together in the same small area. In the same episode, the girls saw the "ghost" outside the window, visibly moving. They then found the slide projector with the slide of one of the boys in a sheet. How could a still image have moved around when projected outdoors? Jan also remarked that it was "Peter in a sheet". How did she know it was Peter?
In the episode "Cyrano De Brady" when Peter threw some pebbles against Kerry's bedroom window, she pulled the curtain back and the window was already wide open with no screen on it. In the same episode, Kerry had never seen Marcia before, so why was it necessary for Marcia to wear a disguise? Also, when Peter telephoned Kerry, she had no clue who he was, which made no sense because she and Marcia had encountered him coming down the stairs and he acted peculiar, which made them giggle. How could she have possibly forgotten that?

You are correct. In Canada where I live we always had to go to the high school the week before and get our textbooks and bring them home with us so that we had them the first day. Anyway, Marcia would have at least carried some notebooks with her to write in, but she didn't even have those with her.
Tankeryanker 06-30-2022, 11:01 AM Anyway, Marcia would have at least carried some notebooks with her to write in, but she didn't even have those with her.
That could be a truth. In fact, she probably would have carried a binder to put all the papers in she would get as she went from class to class. Did we get a syllabus in high school like we do/did in college?
Do we ever see the Brady kids at their locker in high school?

It's possible but I never did that and neither did my friends. Its the ONLY time you go to school empty handed (for the most part).
We had names for kids that would do that

All accurate stuff. However in the Cyrano Brady episode it is explained why Marcia wears the wig. Greg asks Marcia if Kerry ever saw her. Marcia does not think so but plays it safe and decides to wear the wig.
Not being picky but it is explained in the show why she wears the wig.
Its funny where no windows are shown on the Brady Bunch because of the glare from the studio lights. If you notice the cooktop in the kitchen is an odd silver color. It was stainless steel but the studio lights reflected off it so they went to great lengths to scratch down the cook top to not pick up a glare.
Another detail is you will notice the rock wall in the entry way is missing after season 3. It had pieces fall out so the studio removed the stone wall and just put up a typical plaster wall. I have always wondered why the wall oven was replaced in season 5. Just to appear to modernize the house? And the bedroom doors are now yellow instead of blue.
damon strong 08-22-2022, 03:30 PM In the episode where Cindy loses Carol's earrings, why did Carol want to wear the earrings with her Cleopatra costume when her ears were completely covered by her black Cleopatra wig?
In the same episode, wasn't Peter a bit too old to be playing with a detective kit that consisted of a hat, fake moustache, and magnifying glass? He would have been about 14 years old.
damon strong 10-27-2022, 10:01 AM In the Season 5 episode "Out of This World", when Greg was shining the flashlight out of the attic window, wouldn't Peter and Bobby, who were camping out in the backyard, have been able to see a light shining out the window?
BestTVever 11-27-2022, 03:25 PM When Tiger runs away we learn that days later he is found roaming around the neighborhood. Why did Tiger never return to his house? He impregnated the dog months earlier and the puppies were born already.
In the frog jumping contest episode, many of the frogs are not real. When the frog is in the pizza, its not cheese and its not a real frog.
How come we never see Alice sit down and eat with the family?
In the Hair Brain Scheme episode the magazine that Greg holds up to hide his face in the beauty parlor is seen in the house in earlier episodes.
In the Cincinati Kids episode at the end Mike Brady suggests the whole family ride the roller coaster. However Mike is not seen on the coaster. In real life Robert Reed refused to ride.
In the episode when Bobby is safety patrol, Mike brings home a row boat that can fit 2-3 people max. However the kids keep asking dad when are they going "sailing."
In the episode where Bobby is afraid to climb you can hear Florence call Peter Chris (his real name). The stunt double for Alice is funny as she flies off the trampoline.
Dianne3 12-19-2022, 04:31 PM In the episode where Jan gets a locket from a secret admirer, the episodes ends with the rest of the family not finding out who sent Jan the locket. When Jan temporarily loses the locket, the plot about finding out who sent her the locket is forgotten.
Dianne3 01-07-2023, 02:59 PM This is something that stands out for me every time I see these episodes
When the Brady's are driving to the Grand Canyon, there are no other cars on the road.
Later when Bobby & Cindy get lost, there are no other people around except the Indian Boy who helps him.

There is something else on the Grand Canyon episode. As the Brady's drive into the Canyon area we see the station wagon pulling the camper. After some car banter the screen shot goes back to the road and we only see the station wagon. The camper is missing.
Tankeryanker 01-15-2023, 07:55 PM ^^^
The Bradys were so rich they rented the whole riverbed of the grand canyon.

Something else about this episode: we know from the end that Alice sent it to her.
So Alice goes with Carol, to Mike's office, to see if his typewriter drops a y. They are confronted and questioned by the security guard. Despite all this, Alice still doesn't tell Carol she sent the locket to Jan?
If I were Carol I'd be ticked. "Why didn't you tell me?" "Why did we go thru all of this if you sent it?"

That's kind of funny. Alice would rather commit a break-in than simply tell Carol and ask her to keep it a secret.
Tankeryanker 04-09-2023, 09:48 PM So, who mowed the plastic lawn?
If there were so many kids available to do chores, why was Alice always doing them?

CosmicCharlie 04-17-2023, 05:20 PM So, who mowed the plastic lawn?

they probably mowed the fake plastic grass with a toy fake lawn mower that a 6 year old like to push around that makes the fake mower noise we all know

In the episode "Dont play ball in the house", the parents punish all the kids for breaking the vase. We see them doing chores. We get to see Marcia mowing the grass with an old school push mower. Pretty funny when you think about it.
We do see someone mow the lawn
Rich3 04-18-2023, 08:05 AM If mowing the lawn was punishment then who usually did it, Alice? Man, they really worked her to death.
Dianne3 04-21-2023, 02:48 PM Again going back to the Grand Canyon episodes, the only time it rained was when some brief rain dance was done.
The one time the Brady's could have used rain was when Alice cousin Emma had them getting up a 6 am to exercise.
The girl's cat disappeared after the pilot episode.
Also in the pilot episode, the boy's mother was briefly mentioned when Mike was talking to Bobby, but the girl's father was never mentioned.
BestTVever 04-22-2023, 04:55 AM Speaking of the pilot episode. The house in the pilot episode is not the same house the girls move into once they are married. We see the girls moving their things into the house in episode 2 and discover the clubhouse. Where did their house go?

In the pilot the kitchen is the same, but different colors, for the boys and Mike. They exterior is not the same.
Maybe they sold both houses and bought the one we see them in for the rest of the show?

No. We hear several times in the first season when the girls "moved in." We also only see the girls move in and not the boys. When they thought about selling the house, Alice was worried because she said she had her routine down there for so many years. The boys talk about all the good times they had at the house with walking into doors and falling off the garage roof, etc.
stevea 04-13-2025, 03:51 PM I've wondered about this, but I thought maybe I mis-heard. But, no. Today MeTV played "You're Never Too Old." With Florence playing Grandma Hutchins.
Mike wonders aloud to Carol, why a woman like Grandma never got married. Huh? It's possible, but this is The Brady Bunch, after all! It's probably a flat out mistake, since Alice twice calls her Mrs. Hutchins.
CosmicCharlie 04-13-2025, 04:00 PM Grandma never got married ? so she had illegitimate kids out of wedlock ?
BestTVever 04-14-2025, 07:21 AM Grandma never got married ? so she had illegitimate kids out of wedlock ?
Ha ha, that's right. But I think they meant to say "married again."
On another note its a rare event this late in the series we are sort of reminded again they are a blended family and have different grandparents. After season 1 the lines get blurred and its sort of never mentioned again they are not related.

That makes sense. It's possible the director didn't notice the line error, or it was screwed up in post production.
stevea 04-14-2025, 09:15 AM Oops--I replayed it. And he says again real fast--I missed it.
BestTVever 04-23-2025, 07:01 AM I was listening to the Real Brady Bros podcast and Susan was a guest. She brought up that during the scene when Jan tells Peter "blood is thicker than water" they reminded the producers or writers they were not biologically related. The producers told them that no one remembers they are a blended family. None of the kids ever referred to their siblings as steps. Only in season 1 for one episode does Bobby refer to his mother as a step mother. After season 1 its almost forgotten or inferred they are not a step family.
biffbronson 04-23-2025, 09:08 AM Thanks for that explanation, interesting regarding Susan's comment. Of course, the show's opening clearly reveals it's a blended family, establishing that each parent had been raising their 3 children on their own.
I might mention too that the 2nd Brady Bunch film, A Very Brady Sequel, reminds us in a big way that Mike is Carol's second husband.

The producers/directors/staff don't want to hear from the actors, and this shows it. And I'll bet, particularly the child actors.
Just say your lines...
BestTVever 04-23-2025, 01:32 PM Thanks for that explanation, interesting regarding Susan's comment. Of course, the show's opening clearly reveals it's a blended family, establishing that each parent had been raising their 3 children on their own.

There is a much earlier episode in season 2 where Greg smokes that infers they are biologically related. Greg is upstairs practicing his guitar and Mike comes home and meets Carol at the bottom of the steps listening to Greg play. They both comment how good he is and Carol says something like "talent runs in my family."
