Timmy committed 3 errors during one game in Cleveland, and evidently did not appreciate a fan heckling him for his lack of prowess with the glove. The one game suspension that resulted is the second one for him this season, Anderson started the season with a two game suspension from an incident last September where he shoved an umpire.

Adding insult to injury, Anderson elected to appeal the suspension, and being allowed to play while the appeal process runs it's course, committed yet another error Friday night in Minnesota allowing the go ahead run to score in a come-from-behind rally for the twins.

Perhaps most noteworthy for the White Sox...this is what happens when you load up your roster with big sticks shy on the D.

They aren't paying him $9.5 million this year just to play defense. He's there to rake and be their table setter for their big bats.

He only committed 10 errors all of last season. He's much improved from earlier in his career when he led the league in errors twice. Any defense they get from him is a bonus.

I believe that anyone knowledgeable with the game might agree, a single player involved with 2 league imposed suspensions in the same month is an exceptional occurrence. First for Anderson abusing an umpire at the end of last season, and now for abusing a fan.

I've personally witnessed Anderson throwing the ball 5 feet over the first baseman's head as well as bouncing throws in the dirt well out of the first baseman's reach. And I don't suspect the problem to be a lack of athletic ability on Anderson's behalf...I just don't believe he possesses the instinct of a shortstop. Isn't it conceivable that the stress of the position is feeding Anderson's emotions in a counterproductive way? Four errors over a three day span certainly is exceptional, as well. And just look at what has happened to the WhiteSox's standings over that time period.

It's not solely a matter of errors committed, either. There is a range factor....how many "squeakers" have opposing teams hit just out of Anderson's grasp, that a more rangey shortstop might have gotten a glove upon?

I could eventually see them moving Anderson to the outfield, but he's fine where he is for now.

It worked out pretty well for the Yankees. They call them the Bronx Bombers for a reason. They only need to score more runs than the other team.

Derek Jeter won five Gold Gloves and five World Series, but he's considered by some to be one of the worst defensive shortstops statistically of all time. He could make a great play here or there, but he didn't have a lot of range. He knew how to position himself well and make the necessary throws.

I recall when the Tigers signed Prince Fielder as a free agent. Already having an aged Victor Martinez for DH, there was only one place the portly Prince Fielder could fit into the line up and expect regular plate appearances.

So, the Tigers move Miggy to third base hoping for the best, and in the first week he caught a line drive to the face...that thankfully did not end his career.

And the white sox are in a similar bind, Jose Abreu really isn't fit for any position other than first, and they have even less fit personnel "holding down" the DH roster slot

I expect they've got what it takes to get into the post season, pretty much like last year.

In Jeter's defense (no pun intended) at least he was able to endure the scrutiny of his shortcomings, without becoming abusive to fans and umpires. Here we have Anderson flipping off fans because he believes he can't tolerate the heckling that results.
