I remember reading that the reason Fonzie doesn't wear his leather jacket a lot during Season 1 is because the network censors wouldn't allow it. They felt it made him look like to much of a "hoodlum."
Supposedly, he was only allowed to wear his leather jacket when he was on/around his motorcycle, because the leather jacket was acceptible as protective gear for a motorcycle rider. In all other scenes, he is seen wearing a grey windbreaker-like jacket.
If you watch the early episodes though, this doesn't seem to be the case. The times he is seen wearing the leather jacket seem totally random, and usually have nothing to do with whether the motorcycle is in the scene or not.
For instance, in the episode "The Deadly Dares" he is shown lounging around on his motorcycle in the parking lot of Arnold's, and he is wearing the grey jacket. Later in the show he's shown at a Jefferson High School dance trying to pick up chicks (OK, so the "chick" he picks up is really Richie in drag), and he's wearing the leather jacket.
Anyone else notice this? What's the real deal w/the leather jacket?
