My high school in the 1980's had a school secretary named Mrs. Taylor who was basically a chain smoker and was common going to her office and seeing many butts in the ashtray and her smelling like smoke. She was also an older lady probably in her 60's (and surely long passed by now). Mrs. Taylor reminds me of the Church Lady. In real life in the Baptist Church, smoking would be a sin and not allowed.

My high school has now banned smoking on the property by anyone. But less people smoke now than they did almost 40 years ago.

One thing I've been noticing a lot on sitcoms, dramas, and movies.....while the character they are playing in a particular show may not smoke on camera, the actor or actress smiles and you see a mouth full of yellow teeth.

Mary on Young Sheldon smokes when she is worried or stressed out. The "youth pastor" guy also smokes.

Archie Bunker smoked cigars.

Everyone's ignoring the fact that TV shows were originally sponsors by tobacco companies. They insisted everyone on their shows smoke.

I remember reading that on Hart to Hart, Lionel Stander's cigar bill was $1,500 per episode. Notice that almost no one who smoked, ever smoked the cigar or cigarette down to the end. They always were always lighting up on screen and smoking a brand new cigarette or cigar. It looks much more cool.

My parents smoked. I have a deep inbred hated of cigarettes and have never tried smoking anything.

Beverly Hillbillies was sponsored by Winston cigarettes and has the actors do promotions for the product, Jed and Granny smoking. You can tell that Buddy Ebsen didnt smoke just by the way he handled the cigarette, probably neither Irene Ryan.
