How much did ice cream sodas cost 1961? On the show Eddie owed 50 cents I wonder what he gotten on tab? Eddie’s and Lumpy’s mean trick.

An ice-cream sundae was 40 cents I think?

Now you can't find ice cream sodas. It's been a long time since i tried, but you used to be able to special order one at Dairy Queen by asking for an old fashioned soda.

In an earlier episode Ward and June ordered a "black and white" soda (June's w/o whipped cream, as if that would help much). Which I think was a chocolate soda with vanilla ice cream. Or the other was around.

I wonder why they are old-fashioned. They're really good.

I guess they still exist, but the semantics have changed. Recently we went to a Sonic and requested root beer floats. They didn't know what we meant but when we explained what they were they said "OK, sure, two vanilla sodas but with root beer". :)

The topic really piqued my thinking about how important and enjoyed food & drinks were for 60s kids. Then, also how unrealistic it was to be deemphasized on LITB. Expressions of enjoying food almost seemed frowned apon. More of an emphasis on folded napkins, how the food is eaten properly than the actual food itself. Might be somewhat because the actors were so bad. Those food memories as a kid are one of many highlights of my mostly wonderful youth.

DQ ice cream sodas are a distinct memory. After eating the ice cream the syrup chocolate drink remnants were a pure joy. Think DQ then expanded it's menu and ICS faded away. Yeah what wonderful food memories.

Homemade root beer floats were big.
Shakey's pizza was amazing. First Pizza Hut in town gouged customers with $20 great pizzas. A&W drive-ins for a root beer and chili dog.
White Castle on the way home from ballgames. Numerous ma & pa WC imitators. Hot dog stands. Kayo chocolate pop/milk drink (better than yoohoo). Getting to take a slug out of my dad's beer at ballgames. My mom and her sisters would make homemade potato/bacon sausage. Cooked on a skillet. What a treat. My dad would make pizza bread with anchovies. Also a pizzaveet(?) fried with sprinkled sugar on it. Amazing spaghetti, lobster at Italian restaurants. Way too much chocolate candy. Walking to Walgreens with a favorite uncle on a Sunday (they were open on Sunday ghost town) visit for lunch talking sports. Going to Rax for a amazing roast beef sandwich.

Now unfortunately it's healthy eating, and calorie counting.

No eating pleasure so you can live another 6 months.

For any malady conceivable what's the advice or part of it? Eat more fruits and vegetables.
