Since he was a grown man I wonder if he could have approached Norman Lear to stay on AITF and maybe in school or have his own place. He seemed to have more screen time on AITF than he did the 1st season of the Jeffersons

Though its been written that Mike didn't like being a supporting player in The Jeffersons, he appeared to have been the most significant supporting player with strong roles in Lionel the Playboy, Like Father Like Son and Lionel Cries Uncle and good screentime in Jenny's Low. He was in 11/13 episodes and had he stayed, Id've been glad to see him continue in that same ratio of appearances (mathematically it works out to 20 out of 24 episodes and ample to substantial roles for him in about 1/3 of the episodes. But he didn't want to stick around (and who knows what else was going on in his life at the time).

I will say that Mike was loads more entertaining and naturally appealing/relatable than Damon who came across as an actor reciting lines.
