I filed my taxes with my Mother using TurboTax on February 2nd but my mother accidentally hadn't put my pin the IRS sent me due to some unknown Thief in 2013 somehow getting a hold of my tax information and filing under my name and stealing what would have been my money. When I filed for real, my Tax preparer called me and told me someone already filed under my name and got my refund. I was pissed. I had to sign paperwork swearing I was the victim of Identity theft and wasn't the one who filed the first time. It took me six months to get my refund check. I was PISSED!:mad: IRS now sends me a Pin every year for tax filing.

I got an Email saying my Tax filing was rejected and I was told it was missing a Pin. I put the Pin and got a message saying something like,"Error fixed. It showed me my refund and my Bank Account information. I saw something like,"Sign and E-file, but I didn't properly do it. About two week later, I got a call from TurboTax. I assumed it would be something like,"Your tax refund is on its way in about one more week. " Instead, I was informed my Tax filing was rejected. I was baffled as I put in the Pin. I had to put the Pin again and ACTUALLY sign and E-file (I assumed the tax filing went through when I saw my Bank account details and my Refund amount.

This was on Wednesday, February 16th when I FINALLY did it the right way all the way. I assumed I would be getting my refund by March 9th. March 9th rolled around and I still didn't have my refund. I went to IRS Website to inquire about my Tax Refund and I got the message that my tax refund was delayed. It didn't even tell me when I should expect my Tax Refund. I went to Google and a LOT of People have their Tax Refund delayed and got the SAME message from the IRS Website. There was something written like,"Being told your Tax Refund is delayed with no set date is no comfort for you when you're desperately needing the refund check to be deposited in your Bank Account". As of today, March 13th, I still have not received my Tax Refund check

I have been hearing on my radio that the IRS is way back logged and in the process of hiring 10,000 people.

Sounds like more of a huge mess with all that's been going on with covid and job losses and tax issues in general.

Yeah, the IRS is a mess these days. They are insanely backlogged and have quite a staffing crisis on their hands. I doubt they will have great success bringing on that many people, at least in a short amount of time. I've also heard they're terrible to work for, which adds to their staffing crisis.

Anyone putting themselves in desperate need of receiving their tax refund on a specific schedule, is setting themselves up for heartache, IMO.

In general I consider any day where the government leaves me alone, to be a success. Actually receiving anything of value from them, is a bonus.

The last 10 years of my working career, I was self employed. Meaning there was no automatic withholding. I had to make "voluntary" quarterly payments based upon what I projected my tax liability to be.

I always made those estimated payments with the expectation that I would owe the government a balance due at the end of my tax year.
Which was great...why let them control MY money? etc

Except any and EVERY time I got a letter from the IRS, it was inevitably bad news.

Nothing devastating, but they just aren't the type folks who send a "having a great time, wish you were here" type letter.

So, I conditioned my self that wherever the IRS is concerned ...no news is always good news.

When I retired I was at a point where I didn't make enough money to file...After 40 or more years of filing, what a Joy to be out of that system.

Yes, I've heard the "rumblings" of tax protesters for years with their claims that the federal income tax is unconstitutional.

Know what you call such folks? Inmates.....

1000's/millions more need to be inmates, but they find other places to plant their money.

I haven't filed yet ! My Hubby and I have an appointment with our long time trusted accountant on April 5! Even though we are not rich, very middle/ working class and don't have a ton of money to work with in the first place and our taxes are pretty simple this lady we go to is great ( we always get a nice refund) and we are old fashioned and never tried to attempt doing taxes ourselves online ! :)

I always heard scuttlebutt that the IRS wont waste their time auditing "small fry" taxpayers. that it costs them thousands of dollars to conduct an audit, so unless you've got hundreds of thousands of dollars of cash flow which they suspect is being "mishandled", you are relatively safe. (can't squeeze blood out of a rock).

Until one year where a friend if mine who grossed less than $30,000 got audited. I guess there are certain 'trigger' events that can move one up to the front of the line. In this particular instance the guy was failing to make child support payments to an ex in an adjoining state. And the ex was on welfare to boot. So the welfare agency in the adjoining state started trying to recover missed support payments directly from the guy, and reported his failure to pay as"income" to the Feds.

So it got plenty ugly for him.

For some years I did my own short form as I really had no deductions..When I owned a condo for a while and was making more money I ended up paying a tax person.....So so so glad to be OUT of the system....
