Ignoring of course, the fact that Who's the Boss? (https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-1992-03-19-1992079109-story.html) and Growing Pains were produced by two different studios (Columbia Pictures Television and Warner Bros. Television respectively).

I find it a little hard to believe that Sam wouldn't notice she was walking into the wrong house, as the Growing Pains House and the Who's the Boss house look nothing alike. She's also in the wrong state, as WTB was set in Connecticut, while GP was set in Long Island, New York. Sam is very confused.

I do find it kind of confusing within itself that the ad makes it appear as if Samantha Micelli is talking to Mike Seaver instead of Alyssa Milano, the actress talking to Kirk Cameron. And yet, in the same ad Sam mentions Alan as in Alan Thicke instead of his TV character's name, Jason. And Alyssa and Kirk themselves appear to mention each other as within the context of being characters from a TV show without actually mentioning their real names.

Yeah, the illusion definitely got broken when they referred to Alan Thicke.

According to Google Maps (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Long+Island,+New+York/Fairfield,+CT/@40.9656172,-73.7228693,10z/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x89e84454e1eea5cb:0x1df7f96186940d18!2m2!1d-73.134961!2d40.789142!1m5!1m1!1s0x89e805578d6cea2d:0x1442b584f866a7d5!2m2!1d-73.2612615!2d41.1408363!3e0), it's an approximate 1 hour and 26 minute drive from Long Island, New York to Fairfield Connecticut (where Who's the Boss? was set) via I-495 W and I-95 N. That's of course, the fastest route. But of course, that isn't exactly a good walking (https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Long+Island,+New+York/Fairfield,+CT/@40.9833254,-73.3040591,11z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x89e84454e1eea5cb:0x1df7f96186940d18!2m2!1d-73.134961!2d40.789142!1m5!1m1!1s0x89e805578d6cea2d:0x1442b584f866a7d5!2m2!1d-73.2612615!2d41.1408363!3e2) distance as implied in that ad.

That reminds me that when Alan Thicke passed, Alyssa Milano wrote (https://www.film-news.co.uk/news/UK/42901/Alyssa-Milano-leads-tributes-to-nicest-person-in-the-room-Alan-Thicke) on Twitter (https://twitter.com/Alyssa_Milano/status/808857664608272384?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) that "Alan Thicke was always the nicest and happiest person in the room. Gone way too soon. Rest In Peace."

Are there any other examples of in-character or semi-in-character promos from classic/retro TV shows?

I would've loved this, I'm wondering what the stories would be...

-Jonathan thinks Carol is hot and acts like a horny dork around her

-Ben thinks Sam is smoking hot and acts like a horny dork around her

-Eventually each find out about eachother's crush and both say ... GROSS! at the same time ("eww shes like my sister")

-Maggie is amazed that Tony is such a great homemaker/cook, falls in love with his lasagna, Jason resents it but keeps using psychiatric terms to talk himself out of being jealous... he eventually snaps and acts like a jealous husband with a hilarious blow up after she "mmmmm"'s Tony's latest dish too much

-Meanwhile Mike and Sam are hitting it off after a rocky start

-Carol is amazed by Mona, living a fun life at her age and realises she should be more open to fun, classic "touching speech" with Mona telling her shes beautiful and should enjoy her life to the fullest

-Angela can't help bring her work into the visit, she does a focus group on a new brand of soda, interviewing Boner with the jokes you'd expect... "Name?" "Boner." (just as tony is walking into the room she says...) "BONER?" (with a stern look assuming it's a joke) Tony says: "Angela I think he's a bit too young for you" Angela: "Tony? Don't you have a turkey to baste?" (implying she's jealous of all the food he's making for Maggie)

-Episode ends with the WTB cast leaving and just as the door closes, there's a split screen of both familes (Seavers inside, WTB outside) they both saying "wow what a screwed up family" at the same time as we hit the freeze frame and applause

Honestly just writing that all out, I legit wish they did this ep now :)

A "Bewitched"/"My Three Sons" in character promo:

"Whatever you say, Stove Dearborn"

"My name is Steve Douglas!"

Growing Pains and Who's the Boss? were actually, a lot more similar than you would originally be left to believe. Both shows were about a man taking care of the house and kids and the woman working outside the home.
