Does it hurt to get your bellybutton pierced? Jinny Girl got me thinking about it, so does it hurt to do it yourself?

Yo. Are you outta your mind?! DON'T do your bellybutton yourself. My friend did, well, tried, and she ended up having to have surgery or something cause she screwed something up in there.....

Get it done professionally.

Everyone I know (including an 11 yr old) said it didn't hurt at all. Doing it yourselfwould be hard because belly rings are thicker than earrings so you can very well stick a pin through and get the belly ring in. I have 3 earrings thick enough to shove through then get the belly ring through with but... it will prolly get infected.

I hate it when people say that. We just cant do that. You have to be 18, and who wants to wait until then. By that time, everyone will have gotten it done. it really sucks. there are a few dives here and there that'll do it though... but i dont wanna go there... gd knows what they ask in return, because the piercings ther are "free"

I want one, and will prolly get one when I'm older, but OMG...I dunno if I can handle the way they pierce it. *cringe*

I think the Number 1 rule with all piercings is get it done professionally! There's too many things that could go wrong if you do it yourself and you screw it up!
I don't think that belly button piercings are attractive anyway.

Under 16's need parental permission to get their ears pierced. If you want anything more 'serious' pierced then you have to be over 18 before you can do it without parental consent.
It just depends on where you go though. Practically every hairdressers and salon in the country do piercing and half of them don't even bother about what age you are (unless you're really young). I was under 16 when I got my cartilage piercings and I didn't have parental permission but I already knew the guy who owned the salon so he did it for me anyway.
As with so much in life, it's all about who you know.... ;)

troo. I mean I can go into the bar across the street through the back door to meet famouse country singers when they perform. I met the Dallas cowboys cheerleaders during a closed commercial shoot with my dad. HE is the one who knows people but still, if he didnt id stillbe umable to meet all those stupid country people who i dont even like.

Yup, I'm agreeing with Babalu on this one. It makes me shudder to think of getting my belly button pierced... I would never do it. Not for money, not for a dare...It just strikes me as painful and gross, and not cool at all. I also can't stand seeing people with pierced tongues... that's even worse. Ewww.

i got my belly button pierced and i like it...but i did get it done professionally, simply cause I coudlnt' take the whole taking a pin and stabbing it through my own belly button, but hey.. do what you can do... If you dare try to do it yourself, just make sure to keep it clean. How old are you? Try and see if you can swing your parentes into it or something

Im only 14, (15 in two months. Yay!) and I havent even bothered to ask my parents, because I know what the answer will be!

BTW...I was never seriously considering doing it myself. I could really not do that! I was just wondering if anyone had done it.

You need to get parents' permission if you're under 16 just to get your ears pierced? The town I lived in never had that rule. I had my ears pierced when I was 13. I think I would wait to get my belly button pierced, though. I've always wanted to get it done, but I think I'll wait until I'm 18.

dude the town I live in its 18. actually it goes by state here, each state has a different law on piercings. MOST have the law of 18, but Penn i THINK doesnt have any laws and i like Arizona is 14. Even for eer piercings here itsd 18. I had mine pierced at 10, then at 14, but still my mom had to sign all these stoopid forms giving her consent. I would join in with the argument (i love them) but i wasnt here when it started so Im lost....

Just to get back on topic here -
The main gist of my initial reply was that it basically isn't safe to do any piercings yourself. To underline my point I wanna tell you all about the mess my ear is in right now.
I have 2 cartilage piercings in my left ear and they both keep getting infected for seemingly no reason - my ear just swells up at random intervals - and I got it done professionally!! I dread to think what it would be like if I'd done it myself!
My ear was ok yesterday but I woke up this morning with a huge, squishy purple and green lump on the back of my ear (if this is grossing you all out, good) which kept getting gradually bigger and more painful throughout the day. I had to do something about it cos it was just so rank so I popped it - I'll spare you the details of the stuff that oozed out of the hole (yes, I now have another hole in my ear) for the following 15 minutes.
I've got a huge band aid over my ear now. And this kind of thing happens to me usually about 2 or 3 times a month.
Anyone who is thinking of piercing any part of their body by themselves is just crazy, in my opinion!

And THAT, Ladies and Gentleman, is why my mother will not let me get my cartilage done.

She's afraid of it getting infected, blah blah blah. I mean I have 6 holes, and not one of them has ever gotten infected. But she's still petrified to let me have it done. And the warnings here are so gruesome.

To be fair though, I know tonnes of people who have cartilage piercings and not one of them has had as many problems with them as I do.
It just annoys me though cos, as well as being extremely painful, my parents are always saying "well, we told you not to get more piercings but did you listen to us? What would we know - we're just your parents blah blah blah". I think they find it funny or something. They're obviously both sadists. The sensible thing for me to do would be just to take my earrings out and let 'em heal but then my parents would get their own way and I won't allow that.

Yes, I am very stubborn. :D

Mossopp... Maybe you should like... see a doctor. maybe its been pierced wrong or something because NOBODY i know who has it (which is barely anyone in this town noone has it, and fyoo have a second hole) gets that problem. If i were you Id like... go to a piercing shop and ask what i was doing wrong! It seems really nasty. Cartilage infections can get really bad and deform your ear. I hear abot these poor people whos infections eat the cartilage and their eer turns floppy. ew.

You're right. I probably should go'n see a doctor but I know he'll just tell me to take the earrings out and I don't wanna take them out. I know I'm basically cutting off my nose (or in this case my ear) to spite my face, as they say, but I don't want my parents to get their own way. I know that's stupid but I'm a stupid person sometimes.
My ear is already kinda deformed anyway. Even when it's not all swollen and filled with green goo it's still thicker and a different colour from my other ear. But if I took the earrings out it would be more noticeable. It'd look better in the long term if I just leave 'em in.

I know you want to leave them in, but be careful... I read about this girl, and the infection got in her blood, and she needed $400,000 to get surgery and she still died from it....

And my friend's ear is REALLY deformed...but I'm not telling my mom that...
