McDermott is set to replace Julian McMahon (https://www.primetimer.com/item/Julian-McMahon-says-goodbye-to-FBI-Most-Wanted-after-nearly-three-seasons-d1S2aL), who is departing the CBS procedural after three seasons. McDermott's casting makes him a full-time member of the Dick Wolf universe after recurring on Wolf's Law & Order: Organized Crime on NBC as mob boss Richard Wheatley. Details of McDermott's role haven't been revealed. McMahon's final episode as Jess LaCroix, the head of FBI Most Wanted Unit’s team assigned to the most extreme cases, is scheduled to air March 8. McDermott is expected to make his debut in Episode 17 airing in April. FBI: Most Wanted marks McDermott's return to CBS after starring on Stalker in the 2014-2015 season.

Dylan McDermott is excited to play a good guy again with his new role on FBI: Most Wanted (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/10/arts/television/dylan-mcdermott-fbi-most-wanted.html)

McDermott tonight takes over as lead of Dick Wolf's FBI: Most Wanted, succeeding Julian McMahon with the role of Supervisory Special Agent Remy Scott. “I’ve been playing more questionable people for a while,” the 60-year-old actor told The New York Times of his stint as a crime boss on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. “And now, to play someone who’s more heroic and is a good person is necessary, because you can overstay your welcome as a bad guy.” In a separate interview with Deadline, McDermott added: “I think it’s really interesting. I’ve been reading comments online and people are saying, ‘It’s too soon (https://deadline.com/2022/04/fbi-most-wanted-dylan-mcdermott-interview-1234995684/). He’s Richard Wheatley, a bad guy.’ I relish in that because it’s amazing that people believe that I’m the character I’m playing. Now they’re going to see me in a completely different light, going from Richard Wheatley to Remy Scott, two wildly different people with wildly different agendas in life.”
