I don't know if this the exact reason why Schooled didn't have a longer run, but don't you think that in a round about way, the whole "will they/won't they" storyline with CB and Lainey was the show's way of wanting us to actively root against Barry? And keep in mind that Schooled being a spin-off and all, was presumably, for fans of The Goldbergs first and foremost. So CB in some respects (https://tvline.com/2019/12/03/schooled-season-2-more-episodes-ordered-new-showrunner/#comment-list-wrapper), may have come off as frustrating and unsympathetic.
