After thinking about it for many years (and always siding with John, Joyce and the Producers) I now believe the show would have been better to work something out with Suzanne instead of playing hardball and moving to fire her.
No offense to Cindy and Terry fans, but the fact that they kept bringing in new characters/roomates and neighbors show that Suzanne played the Chrissy character darn well. I think the show would have been better off in giving Suzanne a raise.
*I realize this is an unpopular opinion.

I do like the Chrissy character, but during the last season she was with the show, she played the character too broadly and over the top. I can only imagine that in later seasons it probably would have been even more exaggerated. I have noticed that at times other sitcom characters from some shows fall into the trap of over the top performances, as a sitcom ages.
I am not understanding how bringing in new characters show that Suzanne played the Chrissy character well? Perhaps you could elaborate further as to why you think this is the case? I just do not see what you mean. The show survived just fine without Chrissy, even though she was missed.
I am sure that they could have paid her more, but then they would have to pay Joyce more and so on and so on. She was really asking for a HUGE increase.

Suzanne Somers became a big star. She made plenty of money. Joyce Dewitt did not.

NO WAY Jose!
Suzanne knew playing hardball with zillionaire producers could backfire but she did it anyway.
She also knew her husband is NOT an agent but a MORON & he basically ruined everything for her.

One thing that might have been good about Chrissy staying, is I think Janet would have remained the sensible down-to-earth one. In the later Terri episodes, Janet became so SPAZZ and ditzy herself always flying into hysterics. I think it's because, since Terri was a nurse, they didn't wanna make her ditzy as Chrissy and Cindy were, I think they were aiming to make Terri the level-headed one, so Janet naturally became the "ditzy" one. I honestly preferred earlier Janet's personality more.
Jack also changed a bit, he was more level-headed in the earlier episodes but became almost a total clutz in the later ones

He did seem less clumsy before season 3

Its a tough call and hard to Monday morning quarterback this situation. I think even some of the cast thought banning her from the set yet making her phone in scenes was too far and odd. Either fire her completely or use her.
Suzzane was upset for being fired but she went on to make more money than if she stayed with Threes Company.
I hated what her character became to be on the last several episodes. She dressed like a young girl with pony tails and overalls with bleached blonde hair. She turned into an idiot. I am in the minority but I welcomed the Cindy episodes.

No, you're not.
Cindy was a much needed breath of fresh air. Terri, even more so!
