View Full Version : Taking your date to the White Fox
Tankeryanker 01-17-2022, 08:19 PM Those of you who, back in the day, would take a chickadee out on a date, what would it cost to go to someplace like the white fox?
Would have taken a date to a place that fancy?
Where you live now, is there someplace fancy enough to take a special date? Where I live there isn't much that isn't a chain.
The fancy, family-owned establishments are gone. No place to take your prom date.
CosmicCharlie 01-17-2022, 08:44 PM Here in Eastern Mass today & back then there are SO MANY restaurants that are not chain ...
Back in the day I would have been embarrassed to go to a chain restaurant with a date, so ya I went to many nice places back then ...
Dating today - good luck with that lol
I met a girl a few years ago and asked here what she wanted in a relationship ? She said she wanted to be told she was pretty and had nice clothes, wanted gifts including jewelry, and never wanted to drive or pay for anything ever again ! She just found a new boyfriend and he's ok with that !!
stevea 01-17-2022, 08:57 PM No Howard Johnsons for you, huh?
All I remember of them is their ice cream cake roll (with chocolate sauce) for dessert. Yum!

They had good fried clams too!
CosmicCharlie 01-18-2022, 12:49 PM Woodmans in Essex MA invented the fried clam - just down the street from me,
we have fresh fried clams offered in every town in these here parts - Yum !
Steve Woodman: My name is Steve Woodman. I am grandson of “Chubby” Woodman who invented the fried clam in 1916. Now, the way this all started was Chubby was trying to make some extra money. He saw that people were clamming along the shore. He decided that he could make some extra money digging clams and then selling them. That’s what he started to do. He dug some clams, sold them to wholesalers who were selling them off to Gloucester and wherever they could peddle them.

GentlemanJim 01-18-2022, 06:03 PM The problem I always had, I'd take a gal to the best restaurant I could think of, way over-kill for the situation, and more often than not get called out for trying to "buy favor" with them.
So, ultimately I decided that if I was gonna strike out anyway, I might as well save a few bucks, and take them someplace that didn't make their heads swim.

Don't mean to imply they're not good--just got grossed out as a kid, so I'd probably not try them.
