View Full Version : CHCH TV - SPRING 2022
In a couple of weeks, CHCH is about to undergo its first significant change in its daytime retro schedule since last fall, when it added a number of great series like "I Love Lucy", "Happy Days", "Andy Griffith", "My Three Sons", and "Make Room For Daddy", which for me has been a wonderful and pleasant surprise. Look for more of the same this time as a few returning favorites show up in the afternoon, and an underrated gem make its retro debut. Here is what the new lineup will look like by the end of this month:
10:00 am - To Be Announced -
Matlock will end on Mon. Feb. 7. I'll announce the replacement series after I find it.
11:00 am The Andy Griffith Show - Season 4
11:30 am I Love Lucy - Season 4 (The Hollywood episodes!)
12:00 pm Bonanza
1:00 Taxi - Returns Wed. Jan. 26
1:30 Benson - Returns Jan. 26
Both series will replace Hawaii 5-0.
2:00 The Danny Thomas Show - Season 7
Look for the classic episode "Danny Meets Andy Griffith" later this month.
2:30 My Three Sons - Season 4
This is the season where we meet Ernie. He will show up as a semi-regular before becoming part of the family during the color seasons.
3:00 Maude - Season 2
3:30 THAT GIRL - Debuts Thu. Jan. 27 replacing Get Smart.
Danny's little girl Marlo Thomas grows up and headlines her own ground-breaking series which became the inspiration for "The Mary Tyler Moore Show".
4:00 Laverne & Shirley - Season 2
The first of 3 Garry Marshall hit series that will be seen in the next 2 hours.
4:30 Mork & Mindy - Returns Jan. 26
This is great news. I miss Robin Williams.
5:00 - TBA - "Who's The Boss?" will end on Mon. Jan. 31. If CHCH needs someone to burn the tapes, I will gladly volunteer! I'll name the TBA after the news arrives.
5:30 - Happy Days - Season 6
The season after the infamous shark jump. I'll still watch. All others, proceed with caution from this point on.
So that's it. The new schedule is almost complete. I would say that it gets better the further you go down the page. Let me know what you think about it and what you hope will arrive next. With CHCH, you never know but it's always fun to find out. Like I mentioned above, you may be getting a pleasant surprise.
DEH55 01-14-2022, 12:33 PM thanks for the update Sal. I am glad to see Taxi back. not a fan of Benson. and thank the lord Who's the boss will be gone. Tony Danza was involved with one of the best shows in Taxi and one of the worst with that garbage.
KatieAnn 01-16-2022, 11:29 AM Not easy to guess when it comes to CHCH. "That Girl" is a surprise. I wasn't expecting a new show to pop up on the schedule. Taxi, Benson, Mork & Mindy - no surprise.
"The Dick Van Dyke Show Remembered" is scheduled to air on Saturday January 22 - maybe the show will be the next new addition to the schedule.
Shows I wouldn't mind seeing air again:
Bewitched
Barney Miller
Designing Women
Cheers
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
Rhoda
Hawaii Five-O (yes, I know it's just about to end)
Newhart
The Bob Newhart Show
The Brady Bunch
Gilligan's Island
The Jeffersons
Shows I would like to see for the first time:
The Dick Van Dyke Show
WKRP in Cincinnati
The Lucy Show
Here's Lucy
The Golden Girls
Eight is Enough
Adam-12
Emergency!
The Rockford Files
Police Woman
Cagney and Lacey
But no matter what they air, this fall schedule has been great. Even if CHCH adds no shows that I would want to see, there are already so many good shows airing. It's actually not easy to find time to watch them all.
Thanks for updating the schedule. It's always good to see this thread pop up.
Thank you as usual Katie Ann for the nice words and your support. Like you mentioned, the Dick Van Dyke reunion special will be on this Saturday the 22nd at 5 pm. One week later, much to my surprise and sheer delight, even though I sensed that it might happen, CHCH will indeed add "The Dick Van Dyke Show" to its retro lineup February 1st at 5 pm replacing the dreaded "Who's The Boss?". So now, the afternoon group has just become a lot stronger. Shifting to the mornings, one week after Dick Van Dyke arrives, "Matlock" will finally be over on February 8th. I can't imagine what will arrive next. I would love to see another couple of good sitcoms show up. As always, I'll have the news first.
KatieAnn 01-19-2022, 11:55 PM Great news about "The Dick Van Dyke Show."
No idea what CHCH could add next. I never watched "Matlock" but according to CHCH that show gets the highest ratings of any retro show, 2nd highest being "Hawaii Five-0."
I look forward to reading about any new addition to the schedule, when you get the news.
Thanks!
DEH55 01-23-2022, 12:50 PM I am still hoping for WKRP and Alice. Have not watched them in years.
GoodoldDay1970 01-24-2022, 12:05 AM I don’t mind the list of shows that you mentioned above but I was hoping eventually in the future to schedule the shows like
The Love Boat
All in the family
Gunsmoke
Welcome back Kotter,
The Fall Guy
TJ. hooker
Six Million Dollars Man
Bionic Woman
Mission Impossible (I know it already shown a couple years ago but don’t mind watching again)
Growing Pains
Little House on the Pararie
Much much more.....
The final piece of the puzzle will now be revealed. Sorry to say that nothing new will come up except for what I've already told you, but the morning schedule will get a major revamping and will be much improved and the afternoons will look a little flat until you get near the end when the lineup will start to look a lot better. Here now is the final official CHCH Spring 2022 Retro Schedule effective Tuesday February 8:
10:00 am I Love Lucy (New time. Moved from 11:30 am.)
10:30 Make Room For Daddy/The Danny Thomas Show (New time. Moved from 2:00 pm.)
11:00 The Andy Griffith Show
11:30 My Three Sons (New time. Moved from 2:30 pm)
12:00 pm Bonanza
1:00 Taxi
1:30 Benson
2:00 Soap (Returns Tue Feb. 8)
Once again, the original follows the sequel in what will be a long spring for both series.
2:30 Designing Women (Returns Tue Feb. 8)
Yes, we get this again. Oh, the horror!
3:00 Maude
3:30 That Girl
This is where things begin to get better.
4:00 Laverne & Shirley
4:30 Mork and Mindy
5:00 The Dick Van Dyke Show
5:30 Happy Days
Overall, not too bad but could be better. An outstanding morning group followed by a bland and uninspiring afternoon that picks up some much-needed momentum when "That Girl" arrives and continues to look great from that point on.
GoodoldDay1970 01-25-2022, 09:56 PM Thank you for the update information, I'm not a big fan of Soap, Designing Women and Benson. But the rest I will enjoy all other comedy and drama shows including Bonanza. Enjoy the shows everyone!
GoodoldDay1970 01-25-2022, 10:02 PM I hope in the future CHCH put a couple of Drama shows, to balance it out throughout the day on CHCH. Oh well, next major changes coming this summer and fall. Oh well, Enjoy the shows everyone!
DEH55 01-29-2022, 11:16 AM Not a fan of That Girl, Soap, Designing women. I am glad Matlock and Who's The Boss are almost gone. I watched Maude the first time but not watching it this time. I have just been watching Bonanza, Taxi, Happy Days.

It would be nice to the show like Dallas, Knot Landing, Dynasty and Falcon Crest. Don't you think it fun to watch again? I wouldn't mind watch it again.
KatieAnn 01-29-2022, 05:54 PM The list of retro shows that would be great to see again, or see for the first time, is very long.
I am glad that Matlock and Who's the Boss will soon be off the schedule, and I like the shows replacing them.
The only shows I can't really bring myself to watch are Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Mindy, and Happy Days, but I'm sure they are somebody's favourites, and I have plenty of favourites to keep me entertained for the winter and spring.
No complaints from me about this schedule, but I do love to see other people's wish lists for the future. I hope CHCH has a look here and sees those lists.
Thanks for the update.
DEH55 01-29-2022, 07:37 PM I am not a huge fan of Laverne and Shirley and Mork and Mindy. I liked them when I was a kid but now I don't like them as much. Happy Days I like until Ron Howard and Donny Most leave. When it focus's on Joanie and Chachi I can't watch anymore. lol
As someone said I would not mind seeing Dallas, Falcon Crest, Love Boat, The Twilight Zone, Growing Pains, Silver Spoons, Leave It To Beaver, WKRP, Alice, Welcome Back Kotter, The Flintstones lol
I wouldn't mind seeing The Partridge Family, The Brady Bunch or Mary Tyler Moore show return.

Funny you should mention that because "Happy Days" is my favorite show of all time and "Laverne & Shirley" and "Mork & Mindy" are part of my top 20. As for my wish list, I do remember writing about it in great detail exactly one year ago on this site. Looking back at it now, I'm surprised at how much of it has come true.
Shows that I would like to see on CHCH - Feb. 8, 2021 (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=398392&highlight=CHCH)
(The one other thing that surprised me: Does Designing Women ever go away?)
So you see, unlike other retro stations that you may be more familiar with, CHCH really does listen to their viewers. So keep those lists coming. You never know.

Ever since I saw an episode of Hawaii Five 0 and realised it was a good show, I've been looking at shows that I thought I didn't like, every once in a while, just to see if there's something there. Last Friday I decided to give Happy Days another look, the episode where Richie is in an accident and Fonzie sits by his bedside...it was nice, Fonzie in particular was very good (I also really like Richie's father) but there is still something missing with that show. Maybe because I watched it as a child and loved it, now it seems too childish to me - same goes for Laverne and Shirley and Mork and Mindy. I watched Who's the Boss on Thursday and can't find anything good to say about that show, other than it's good that it's almost over.
One thing I don't mind about CHCH is the disclaimer before episodes. That's a permanent fixture before every Bonanza episode, but in general it's not used that often. When it is used, it just makes me pay attention to try and see what the "problem" is with that particular episode, that it needs that disclaimer.
I love Designing Women so I love that it's airing again, it's only the second time, but honestly, shows like DW, Maude, Benson, Soap - these are the shows that I'm surprised to see back so soon. Surprised but not unhappy.
I like all these shows. They must get good ratings.
CHCH is the only retro channel I know of. Too many channels in Canada air endless BBT or Friends, those are now the channels that I wish would update their schedules and just eliminate those shows for a few years. Give people a chance to miss them.
CHCH is officially my favourite channel. 95% of the shows I DVR are on CHCH.
torcan 01-30-2022, 10:40 PM Great news about "That Girl" joining the lineup - I've wanted to see that for years.
I'm glad they're airing "My Three Sons" and hope they continue to the color episodes once the black and white ones are done.
It seems that some of their past retro shows they may have only licensed two airings of - "Bewitched", "Mary Tyler Moore", "Gilligan's Island", "Bob Newhart" (1970s series).
I realize we may see some of these again but a couple haven't been around for quite a while now. Makes me think their contract on them might be up. Will be interesting to see if they pop up again. I think "Soap" will be starting its third run-through so maybe they're just "resting" them.
I'd love it if they eventually picked up a couple of '70s detective shows - like "Mannix" or "Cannon". "WKRP in Cincinnati" would be a welcome addition too!
Love the retro shows!
DEH55 03-13-2022, 07:32 PM I have noticed that CH 11 is not airing some taxi episodes. They are skipping some. I guess that means wherever they get the episodes it's incomplete. Anyone notice this with the other shows airing?
KatieAnn 03-15-2022, 11:24 PM CHCH is a bit unpredictable. The channel often omits Christmas episodes from the lineup and airs them on Christmas Eve and Christmas day, but not always. Just a few days ago a Christmas episode of "The Danny Thomas Show" aired.
Three episodes of "Taxi" have been skipped so far, the Christmas episode from season 1, "A Full House for Christmas," and season 1 episode 7 "High School Reunion" and season 2 episode 9 "The Apartment." My guess is there is something about these episodes that might offend, and that's why they have not aired.
Other shows that I've noticed CHCH skipped episodes include "I Love Lucy," "Maude," "Soap" and "The Danny Thomas Show."
DEH55 03-16-2022, 09:38 AM Hi Katie. The ones I have noticed they have skipped so far is one the where Latka gets to live in a nice condo for a month and the episode where latka meets Simka (Carol Kane) for the first time. This is disappointing. Lol I never noticed this before.
KatieAnn 03-16-2022, 04:41 PM The episode where Latka meets Simka, "Guess Who's Coming for Brefnish," should have aired today, but it was skipped.
No idea why.
I think I know why they skip episodes from time to time. If they were to be aired, CHCH would likely have one of their disclaimers before the episode. I doubt they would want to keep doing that more than they have to, so they would just skip the ones they consider more harmful than others and show the less serious cases, not that I agree with this either way.
Another reason that I think this is happening is that you have popular shows from the past like "Happy Days", "Andy Griffith", "My Three Sons", and "Danny Thomas" that each ran for more than 200 episodes and to show them once every day would take almost a full year to go through the entire series so this way they end sooner so that you can make changes to the lineup faster and you can move some shows around to different times and fill in the holes with other series. This worked out great earlier this winter when "Matlock" finally ended and "My Three Sons" and "Make Room For Daddy" were moved to the morning block and "Dick Van Dyke" filled in nicely in the afternoon. So I like this strategy better!

At least two shows airing right now (Bonanza and Soap) have the disclaimer before every episode. I don't think the people at CHCH mind putting the disclaimer up, but I do think the episodes they skip must be exceptionally "controversial" or "upsetting" so that's why those are skipped. The problem is, if the viewer doesn't get a chance to see them, we can't really know what the "issue" may be.
The only episode of any of the shows skipped that remember watching is the "I Love Lucy" episode, "The Indian Show." That episode didn't air when YesTV was supposed to air it, that channel skipped it too. So guessing something in this episode is offensive to Native Americans, but I can't remember what it might be.
I don't think it's about ending the series sooner so that they can add new shows. They don't really skip that many episodes that it would end the runs of the shows that much sooner. Since CHCH aired almost every episode of Hawaii Five 0, except for 1 or 2 controversial episodes, I expect them to air every season of the shows they are airing right now. But we'll wait and see. I definitely hope that all the seasons of "My Three Sons" and "Bonanza" air.
