Joe Namath is back! His Medicare ad has been on twice in the last 10 minutes!:eek::wallbang

I really thought at the time, that your enthusiasm was misspent. mostly because in prior years I had the same optimism, only to be disappointed. Myself being 64 now, I expect that by this time next year I'll be completely versed.

But I think what we have been seeing is up until jan 1 we were seeing the "annual enrollment" crunch, where people on medicare have the opportunity to change existing coverage, whereas now we are seeing ads for supplemental coverage .(things normally not covered by the basic plans) Which, you can always buy "extra" coverage.

My mom had a retired fireman gentleman friend who had numerous medicare supplemental plans, (plans that paid even if another policy also covered the same thing) and he could go in the hospital for 3 weeks and come out with thousands of dollars in his pocket from the parallel coverage.

It was a damnedest thing you ever saw, but once every year, to year and a half.... you could count on him going in the hospital for a couple weeks, and coming out flush with cash. He was like the gangsta of medicare manipulation.

On a side note, I'm not sure that the Joe Namath commercials are any more grievous than the "suffering dog", "bent vegetable", "testosterone booster", and "HIV suppressant" commercials that take their place?

I agree with you about Joe not being worse than all those other commercials you mentioned but these Medicare ads are on almost every commercial break! You would think that by now after months and months of these that whoever will call in would have done so by now. I am on Medicare plus HAP insurance thanks to GM and I know there are people who depend on Medicare alone and I'm glad that there is medical available for them. But Gosh! 100 ads a day?! Who is paying for these ads? That's what I'd like to know! Commercial time is expensive! It's just that Joe is really getting on my nerves!:crazy::lol:

Yeah, it grows tiresome. It often seems to me that inflation has hit commercial time on TV....and what I mean by that is that I think just lately the amount of each hour given to advertisers has gone up again. As though the networks decided that instead of raising the cost per minute of ad time, they would just squeeze more ad time into each hour. Let the viewers "pay" the increase.

Especially the networks that are running the same movies over and over AMC, BBC, SciFy FX, etc They got movies with less than 120 minutes of run time occupying 3 hour blocks in their schedules, and the inundation of advertising that results makes me wanna barf.

5 minute commercial block-10 minutes of program material-4 1/2 minutes commercial-7 minutes program material- 5 minutes of commercial---etc rinse, lather, repeat

I record almost everything so I can skip through those ads. Yes, and some channels like AMC run 5 minutes of commercials every 10 minutes. Remember when cable tv had no ads? We are most likely paying for those ads with our sky high cable/satillite bills! :mad:

If I watched TV, I'd be happy to see Joe with some commercials. Medicare has been one of the Best things in my retired life along with SS ... Too bad it bothers some so much.

Medicare is great! It's paying totally for my husband's Hospice care. The Veteran's Administration deposits a substantial check each month to help cover the cost of his Dementia Care facility. So along with these our insurance, our Social Security and his pension we are getting along comfortably. I love Medicare. Not those interminable annoying ads!:rolleyes:

Penny, if they bother you so much, just don't watch, close your eyes, do a little meditation. Sorry they bother you so much. When I had TV, I would tune out to MOST ads, just mute and close my eyes for a short time.

I'll have to look up and see what Broadway Joe looks like at 78 yrs, I just looked at Joe and good looking, weathered. but at 78, he and my brother look somewhat alike and same age.

I play a game on my tablet during those long commercial breaks. I first tried closing my eyes and hitting mute, but guess what? I'd fall asleep and miss part of the tv show.:lol:
Joe still looks pretty good for his age. I had a major crush on him in the 1970's.
Now they have a commercial with Jimmie Walker (JJ Evans from Good Times) about checking your zip code for something. He's really getting on my nerves.

I agree with you on that. His commercial is on constantly on some of the networks.

Yep, I'm seeing Walker more than Namath. These unknown companies claim you're getting a licensed agent, but who knows? Better to stick with an established company.

Another annoying ad is for that clean PC program. I can't believe that obvious scam is allowed to continue.

Can you really say that the laxative commercials with the "pinching-off a porcupine" jingle is any less annoying?

I am alone all day and I keep the tv on for company. So what I do is keep the tv on TCM. No commercials!:happyface

Used to love TCM back when it was basic. But my cable company bundled it into a pay tier, so I miss it.

I love TCM. Unfortunately it is no longer broadcasted in high definition due to lack of ad revenue. In general, old movies have aged better than old TV shows.

TCM is great! Great old movies with no commercials! I watched The Philadelphia Story and Splendor In The Grass today. :happyface

I watch The Tennis Channel occasionally, it shows up there a lot too. Old people must watch a lot of tennis.
