I just wonder how a present day remake series would do.... I mean setting it in today's time, mostly taking the original plots from the old 60s episodes and remaking them with modern day twists to them. Mayberry and all would be set in 2022, cell phones, internet, all that but the town and people still somehow manage to keep the magic and the small town charm that existed in the original

It wouldn't be possible due to changes required to make it "politically correct".

A single man raising a child and NEVER saying (in the series) what had become of the child's mother wasn't entirely conventional in 1960!
Lucy Carmichael, Jed Clampett and Kate Bradley all DID spell that their children's other parents were deceased while Sheriff Taylor never did!

Yes of course it'd be the PC of today, as it would be a total modern day remake, just somehow retaining much of the charm of the old series. There would be some LGBTQ characters, addresses to COVID.... Instead of busting up moonshine stills, Andy and Barney would be busting up meth labs and other illegal drugs, etc.... BUT it would still have that...certain SOMETHING that makes Mayberry a "magical" town that draws you there.
I could see one of the older people in town having a flashback to the 60s and Mayberry looking just like it did in the original series, maybe the flashback could even be in black and white....
I could see things like fishing not being a big theme, Andy and Opie would know NOTHING about fishing and it's not something that they do.... BUT maybe one episode Andy gets the idea to try something new with Opie and they try fishing and neither one of them know what they are doing, but ironically enough they have a great time and decide it's something they wanna do again, but it's never mentioned again.... a sweet little nod to the old series.
One thing I totally see for SOME reason... Aunt Bee would be totally opposite of her character in the 60s series.... I could see the new Aunt Bee being young and glamorous and liking the company of men and having a wild past before she comes to help with Opie. I think many funny story lines could come from that.
The Darlings would be there and I could see them being almost exactly the same.
I think it could be fun
