Like, she went from being utterly subdued in the first season to becoming somewhat kooky by the fifth season. I heard that the quality of the scripts were really not the best in the last year. This was likely because The Brady Bunch was initially, only renewed for half a season and it was expected that would be it. So no one was interested in making great scripts for it. But then suddenly, it was picked up for a full year and they used some unused script and rewrote them.

Per Florence Henerson, The BB was only renewed for half seasons at a time for the entire run, with the exception that they were given a full season order for one of the 5 seasons. It was never stated which season it was, but my guess would be season 4. Carol became more animated in later seasons, but I would not consider her kooky at all. Yes, the scripts and the show was not the best towards the very end of its run. as a good many sitcoms start to lose steam after several or more years. Towards the end of the season, the handwriting was on the wall that for many reasons the show would not continue.

The scripts did get weak in the final season. While I love them all, episodes like "The elopement" are so basic that I could have written it. Things got way different with Greg tricking his brothers about a UFO, Cindy making the family put on a play in the back yard, etc. My all time favorite is the family putting up cones in a parking lot to see who was the better driver
All good fun though :)

Yeah, she seemed normal to me in the fifth season. And at least she was rid of that mane or whatever you call it, by then.
Yeah, one of my favorites in that season was Greg's joke with the rigged UFO.
The parking lot cones episode was another good example of a really simple script. You knew Marcia was going to beat Greg, even if you hadn't seen it several times.
And, right all good fun. Like bringing in Mrs. Howell near the end of the run, and having her sing along with Cindy, aka Shirley Temple.
