An I Love Lucy XMas Eve:

(The Ricardos and Mertzes are in a hotel in Paramus, NJ to celebrate the holidays with their families. For this, XMas falls on a Monday.)

Lucy: “Oh Ethel, look at all the malls here.”

Ethel: “The money we will spend here on gifts.”

Fred: “Which for you will only be $3.”

(Ricky laughs.)

Lucy: “I can see it now. On XMas Eve Sunday, we will all shop in all the malls to get good deals.”

Ricky: “Wait a minute dear. This is Bergen County, NJ. They have a real old blue law that is YEAR ROUND. The law says that you can’t shop on Sundays.”

Lucy: “Ricky, it will be XMas Eve. They got to open in XMas Eve.”

Ricky: “It’s YEAR ROUND understand. You should shop now right now. Come on Fred. You want to come down with me to get the suitcases?”

Fred: “Sure.”

(They do.)

Lucy: “Ethel, we got to wait until the last minute to shop. It’s XMas Eve. Despite what that Cuban says, those shops have got to be open on that day.”

Ethel: “He’s right. Let’s do it.”

(On XMas Eve at 5:59 pm, they arrive at the Garden State Plaza Mall.)

Lucy: “There are no cars. This will be a cinch.”

(They go up to the doors only for them to be locked.)

Ethel (reading the sign): “Due to Bergen County Blue Laws, all stores are closed on Sundays no matter what.”

Lucy: “Eewwwwwww.”

(To be continued.)
