View Full Version : Julie Pie in The Best of Times (1981) RetroGuy2000 12-01-2021, 04:09 AM Here is Julie with her fellow castmates (including Jackie Mason and Crispin Glover) in 1981's The Best of Times. 80s Dude 12-01-2021, 07:15 AM I see that Julie Pie is wearing short shorts in these photos. What will Margie Peters and Linda Marsh think? And the boy has roller skates on. RetroGuy2000 12-01-2021, 08:19 AM I see that Julie Pie is wearing short shorts in these photos. What will Margie Peters and Linda Marsh think?:lol::lol::lol: And the boy has roller skates on. Well, at least he's not skating. In. The. House. '80sSitcoms 12-01-2021, 10:38 AM Oh no! Julie's in a cast of 7 kids! Bye, Julie Pie!  Since this is largely unheard of (I'd never heard of it), I looked it up, and for others unfamiliar, this was a TV movie in 1981. No wonder it doesn't ring a bell, lol. RetroGuy2000 12-01-2021, 06:27 PM Oh no! Julie's in a cast of 7 kids! No wonder it doesn't ring a bell, lol. I actually watched this on its original airing. It was kind of like Ferris Bueller, with the main character, Crispin, talking to the camera... but with a weird laugh track. I remember almost nothing about the plot, other than the kids were running around on summer vacation. Crispin Glover and Nicolas Cage went on to do many other better projects. A 2017 review called this TV movie "bonkers" (https://dangerousminds.net/comments/the_best_of_times_bonkers_tv_pilot_starring_baby-faced_versions_of_nicolas_). Also, here is the full TV movie: RQdJX8ZmLTk 80s Dude 12-01-2021, 10:07 PM Julie Pie's character is named Julie and she is more like Blair. RetroGuy2000 12-02-2021, 02:37 AM Julie Pie's character is named Julie and she is more like Blair. I don't know... I don't think Blair would be a cheerleader or aspire to be a Country-Western singer. And would Blair wash cars? valentina warner 12-02-2021, 06:45 PM I don't know... I don't think Blair would be a cheerleader or aspire to be a Country-Western singer. And would Blair wash cars? Season 1 BLAIR would have: she was different then than the one we see during the later seasons! (i am now watching season 8 and it infuriates me what a POD she had turned by then lol!). I know we have been through this before, but for me the real/authentic BLAIR died after season 6 lol! Does anyone disagree? (except for Christopher perhaps, who i know loves this particular season 8) :meangya::meangya::meangya::meangya::meangya::meangya::meangya: 80s Dude 12-02-2021, 07:45 PM I don't know... Blair often wore western outfits so perhaps she could be. Washing cars? Blair does have limits. No way to that. valentina warner 12-02-2021, 08:01 PM I can see Blair as a cheerleader if Eastland had cheerleaders. Blair often wore western outfits so perhaps she could be. Washing cars? (or maybe she'd suggest them they could do it together if that was season 1, and she'd wear some skimpy bikini hee hee!):rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: PS: now i'v got the 'Car wash' song in my head lol! No way to that. I don't think Eastland had cheerleaders. In the 1980s, cheerleaders cheered on boys' teams. That only started to change in the 2000s (https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2007/jan/24/ussport.stevenwells). But Eastland had no boys' sports teams until 1988, many years after Blair graduated. But 1987-ish Lisa wouldn't agree to that wardrobe. valentina warner 12-02-2021, 08:18 PM I feel like 1979 Lisa would have no problem with that. But 1987-ish Lisa wouldn't agree to that wardrobe. Does anyone disagree? (except for Christopher perhaps, who i know loves this particular season 8) I feel like Blair had begun melding into Lisa, as much as Jo was melding into Nancy. Interestingly, Mindy said in 2013 that the opposite happened to Natalie: that they started out the same, but then Natalie grew away from Mindy. '80sSitcoms 12-03-2021, 06:01 PM I feel like Blair had begun melding into Lisa, as much as Jo was melding into Nancy. Jo squealed over Baryshnikov and only spoke occasionally and threatened people with globes and hung out on the phone with a boy all day? ;) Interestingly, Mindy said in 2013 that the opposite happened to Natalie: that they started out the same, but then Natalie grew away from Mindy. What ways did she state, specifically? RetroGuy2000 12-04-2021, 03:42 AM Jo squealed over Baryshnikov and only spoke occasionally and threatened people with globes and hung out on the phone with a boy all day? ;):lol::lol::lol: What ways did she state, specifically? I can't seem to find it now (go figure!), but 80s Dude just linked it the other day: Mindy said she and Natalie started off the same person, and then, gradually, as Mindy became more confident in her acting, Natalie and Mindy became two different people. I actually thought this was fascinating, as we saw the opposite happen with Blair/Lisa and Jo/Nancy M. 80s Dude 12-04-2021, 08:24 AM One thing Natalie and Mindy did have in common in their later years. They both lost their virginity at about the same time. Lorimar Television 12-05-2021, 02:44 AM It makes sense they were similar since Mindy had very little acting experience and as she got more she was able to act as a different person more easily. RetroGuy2000 12-05-2021, 06:03 AM It makes sense they were similar since Mindy had very little acting experience and as she got more she was able to act as a different person more easily. Yeah, she definitely grew as an actress in front of our eyes. And as she grew, she and Natalie became different people. It's interesting seeing Natalie change from a Mindy clone into her own character. It feels like Jo and Blair performed a reverse Natalie: as time went on, they merged into their performers. We saw less and less of the real Blair and Jo: no more guitar-playing, painting girl. No more motorcycle-riding, rebellious girl. RetroGuy2000 12-05-2021, 06:09 AM One thing Natalie and Mindy did have in common in their later years. They both lost their virginity at about the same time. That's an interesting point. I wonder if Natalie influenced Mindy, or Mindy influenced Natalie. 80s Dude 12-05-2021, 08:51 AM That's an interesting point. I wonder if Natalie influenced Mindy, or Mindy influenced Natalie. I think Natalie influenced Mindy since Mindy wanted to looses her virginity before Natalie did. valentina warner 12-05-2021, 06:48 PM Yeah, she definitely grew as an actress in front of our eyes. Fantastic accurate point of view as usual, Retro! BLAIR & JO's character weakened considerably during the later years, whereas NATALIE's one strengthened... :clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap |
