Petticoat Junction aired 7 seasons on CBS from 1963-1970, finishing with a good sized total of 222 episodes. Bea Benadaret stars as Kate Bradley, widowed owner of the Shady Rest Hotel in Hooterville. Kate has three daughters: Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo, and Betty Jo. The daughters went through a bunch of recasts, Betty Jo played by Linda Kaye Henning was the only one who stayed the same the whole show. Bobbie Jo was played by Pat Woodell and Lori Saunders. Three different actresses played Billie Jo: Jeannine Riley, Gunilla Hutton, and Meredith MacRae. Edgar Buchanan plays Uncle Joe Carson who is full of dumb ideas. Sam Cady recurs as store owner Sam Drucker and would reprise that role full time in the Green Acres spin-off. Smiley Burnett and Rufe Davis play the train's engineers Charley Pratt and Floyd Smoot. A cute dog was part of many plots. In later seasons Betty Jo married Steve Elliott, played by Mike Minor. During season 5 Bea Benaderet, the glue that held the show together, died. So Kate had to be killed off as well. She was replaced by June Lockhart who played Dr. Janet Craig. Petticoat Junction only lasted two more seasons after Bea's death.
