Benson aired seven seasons on ABC from 1979-1986, outlasting its parent show Soap by three seasons. Robert Guillaume stars as Benson DuBois. He rose fast through the ranks, from head of household to state budget director to lieutenant governor. James Noble stars as dimwitted but kind Governor Gene Gatling. Missy Gold plays his daughter Katie. Inga Swenson's Miss Gretchen Kraus is in charge of the kitchen and later takes over Benson's head of household role when he becomes budget director. They are constantly exchanging funny insults. At the start of season 2 Rene Auberjonois joined the cast as pompous chief of staff Clayton Endicott III. Caroline McWilliams played the original secretary Marcy Hill, who was replaced by Didi Conn as Denise Stevens. Denise would go on to marry publicist Pete Downey, played by Ethan Phillips.

Everybody Loves Raymond aired 9 seasons on CBS from 1996-2005. It started out on lowly Friday nights, then eventually became the hit anchor of Monday nights. Whiny Ray Romano starred as Ray Barone, a sportswriter who moved his family across the street from his parents. A great supporting cast starred Doris Roberts as his meddling mother Marie, Peter Boyle as his crude father Frank, hulk sized Brad Garrett as his cop brother Robert, and Patricia Heaton as his wife Debra who was always butting heads with Marie. Monica Horan later joined the cast as Robert's girlfriend then wife Amy MacDougall. Ray and Debra had three kids that were basically window dressing, all the action centered on the adults.

I've enjoyed Benson over the years, but also Raymond. It's a tough call but I'm going with Raymond.

Everybody Loves Raymond defeats Benson 11-6 and will advance to the 3rd round.
