I thought of just plain out asking,"What episodes of Good Times are depressing but then I thought,"EVERYBODY will respond,"James Death Episodes." So I decided to get that option out of the way right out the gate.
I find The Boarder episode depressing. The Boarder was put in The Evans' Apartment as part of the Witness Protection Program as the Murderer would kill him to keep him from testifying against him at Court. The Boarder allowed himself to be bought for $25,000 and a free plane and he KNEW that he was a key figure in getting a lot of Victims' loved ones justice.
Apparently, he was the Key Witness for a Trial where a Criminal killed a lot of People. The Boarder's Testimony was going to ensure the Victims' loved ones got their Justice and the Criminal was put behind bars. The Criminal showed up and paid off the Boarder $25,000 and a free plane ticket to flee the Country and skip the Trial altogether. The Boarder ACTUALLY took the money and the free plane ticket out of the Country.
The Evans pointed out the Victim's Families needed his Testimony in order to get Justice for their dead loved ones. The Boarder pointed out he knew the Victims' loved ones NEEDED his Testimony, but said $25,000 was more money than he'd ever seen($25,000 would be more like $178, 000 in today's money according to Google) and left. The Evans were stunned. What a depressing episode. In real life, I'd feel so bad for the Victims' loved ones who got screwed twice. First by the Murderer taking away their lives ones and second by the Key Witness being bought by $25,000 and a free plane ticket out of the Country to skip the Trial altogether. :(
