In 2003 USA Network gave ordinary people a chance to become the next country superstar with Nashville Star. The show which ran for nine weeks gave contestants a chance to perform country favorites for a chance at their own record deal with Columbia "later Universal Nashville" while a team of judges graded them on their talent. The show was hosted originally by Nancy O'Dell then was replaced by Leann Rimes and Wynonna Judd and then revived by NBC for a short time. When the first season premiered the first winner was Buddy Jewell and Miranda Lambert was a finalist.
