In this article Charlotte Rae talks about her new show. She doesn't know if the network will renew it after the initial four episodes and, in the meantime NBC will take a decision about the show's future, she is going to reprise her old role on Diff'rent Strokes. You can zoom the image

We have finally discovered why Mrs. Garrett was in the first half of DS second season. NBC was unsure about the show and they offered her the possibility of resume her old role back before FOL will become her full time job.

There's a little mistake however, the article says there were five students in the dorm, what happened to the other two girls?

People hated math in 1979 :lol:

Cool article!

Yeah, what's the opposite of Warren Littlefielding something?

At least they didn't say "four, six girls".

One awesome thing is how Charlotte drew on her own high school experience, having a kind teacher, in FOL.

Isn't it fascinating? Until the last year, we had no idea Facts was only give a 4-episode trial run. We just thought after episode 4 they went on an unexpected hiatus for retooling. It's been fascinating learning this.

Yup. We did know before this thanks to interviews that Charlotte was promised she could return to her "home show" of DS if FOL didn't work out. Mature Charlotte was grateful and thankful. When Vicki Lawrence was told the same condition if she agreed to leave The Carol Burnett Show to do Mama's Family as a series in the late '70s, she was indignant and insulted.

Interesting to see different perceptions.

Wait wait wait you guys, hold on. Technically, the article is not wrong. The article doesn't say there are five students in the dorm, it says Mrs. Garrett is housemother to five teen-aged girls. That's correct: She's housemother to five teen-aged girls -- Nancy, Blair, That Sue Ann, Cindy, and Natalie -- and two preteen girls -- Molly and Tootie. So if you wanna give it a loophole that way, it's right. ;):p:lol:

Also, when the show got the green light to go ahead of the series, they only had 5 girls. They added Natalie and Cindy later on.

True, but by August, they should have known there were seven girls, since the episodes were already airing... unless they asked an NBC exec! "Five...? Twelve...? We're not sure. We've been up in Tumpy's room, um... planning so the show will become a hit... or it hits yooOOUUuu...":lol::lol::lol:

Yeah, this article came out in September, where the 4-episode trial run was already running out of air time.
