View Full Version : Foods that are discontinued that you miss?
Janice Johnson 11-19-2021, 12:07 PM I miss the Brownie Earthquake from Dairy Queen. A brownie, vanilla ice cream, marshmallow fluff, whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, Oreo pieces, yummy. I've only had it a couple of times, and wanted to go back, but the close Dairy Queens by me both shut down, and the nearest Dairy Queen is in a Mall about two hours away from me. And now, the Brownie Earthquake is discontinued. Fans of the Brownie Earthquake who also miss it pointed out we just have to buy brownies, Marshmallow fluff, a half gallon of ice cream, a can of whipped cream, a box of Oreos, chocolate syrup and make our own Brownie Earthquake.
A Brownie Earthquake was about $6.35. For a one time thing
A can of whipped cream is about $4
Marshmallow fluff maybe about $5
A box of premade brownies might be $7
Chocolate syrup might be about $4
A box of Oreos is about $5
A half gallon of ice cream is about $6
So about $31 for about 10 uses versus $6.35 for a one time thing. :)
Not bad. :)

Janice Johnson 11-20-2021, 01:39 PM The hidden treasures cereal was GOOD during my childhood. Some sweetened corn squares were filled with NOTHING and some were filled with a fruity filling. Yummy and fun. :D Sadly, it was discontinued in about two years when it should have been a HUGE hit. :(
Janice Johnson 11-21-2021, 02:32 PM Dunkin Donuts had a delicious steak sandwich that I had one time, and when I went back for it just a little while later, it was already gone. Sigh. :(

The original 3D Doritos that were launched sometime in the late 90s and were stopped sometime in the early 2000s.
They did make a comeback a short while ago, but they do not taste the same as the ones from 20-years ago.

I could have sworn I saw the 3D Doritos recently. You pointing out they made a comeback a little while ago makes sense. :) Also, where do you live? I have lived in Miami my whole life and was 16-22 in the Mid 2000's-2006 and never saw the Mint Skittles.
Janice Johnson 11-21-2021, 03:29 PM The Wonka candies that were released in 2005 to promote Charlie And The Chocolate Factory were delicious but are now discontinued.
Wonka Donut. A chocolate donut shaped candy filled with chocolate truffle fudge and topped with sprinkles.
The Wonka Bar. A chocolate bar with Graham cracker pieces.
I miss them both. :(

Yanno? THAT is a real shame too. The original 3D Doritos were good. But the two flavors they offer now, ranch and chili-cheese, are horrible
In that same spirit, the original Planters cheese balls were fantastic, but the recently resurrected edition is oily and nasty.
PracTz 11-21-2021, 05:05 PM Forever Yours Chocolate Bars-
Like a Milky Way but with dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate! I haven't seen any in roughly forty years!

Milky Way has a dark chocolate candy filled with vanilla creme. :)
zombi2 11-22-2021, 06:09 AM Flamin' Hot Doritos (the real ones, not these Nacho ones they have now)
I'm so pissed they make Flamin' Hot-"everything under the sun" but not Doritos.
Hot Pockets had these toaster pastry things briefly. idk what they were called. Nobody else seems to remember they existed.
Kool-Aid Fruit-T's
Janice Johnson 11-22-2021, 08:06 AM Hmm. Sometimes bringing back beloved discontinued foods is a "Be careful what you wish for because it might come true," type. Sometimes the beloved discontinued food coming back to life so to speak tastes extremely nasty compared to how great it tasted back when it was in heavy rotation.
Yogos
Yosicles
Cheez-It Gripz

I’m in Brooklyn, NY.
I believe the Mint Skittles never caught on because many people thought it was like “eating toothpaste”. They were very chewy mints.

The original 3D Doritos were my go-to snack during my high school years (1999-2003). I don’t know why they didn’t bring them back.
zombi2 11-22-2021, 09:19 AM I'm sure a lot of it has to do with food companies using progressively cheaper, lower-quality ingredients. Now they make a big deal out of a retro-styled soda using "REAL sugar".
When Chef Boyardee "original recipe" is a selling point we have to remind ourselves that it was cheap canned pasta in the first place. How bad must it be now for them to tout what it was?
GentlemanJim 11-22-2021, 10:27 AM The original 3D Doritos were my go-to snack during my high school years (1999-2003). I don’t know why they didn’t bring them back.
The new 3-D Doritos, they advertised on TV here 3 months before you could find them in stores. Spoke to several store managers over my disappointment with their inability to shelve items I was interested in. They were equally frustrated.
Then, once finally available, I was in disbelief that both flavors offered left quite a bit to be desired. They would have been just fine if they had just made them taste like Doritos, but I guess that wasn't good enough?
I prefer the 3-D style because they are less likely to harpoon the roof of my mouth the way conventional Doritos often do.
Dude111 11-23-2021, 01:18 AM M&Ms made with reg milk (Changed to skim milk in 2000)
Golden Grain Macaroni and Chedder (MMMMMMMMMMMM)
Lipton Iced Tea (The way it was made before 2000)
PracTz 11-23-2021, 02:50 AM Coca-Cola before 1985 . I don't know what they changed but it's NEVER been the same as it was back then!
zombi2 11-23-2021, 08:11 AM Coca-Cola before 1985 . I don't know what they changed but it's NEVER been the same as it was back then!
That's when Coke and Pepsi started changing over to high fructose corn syrup. If you have Hispanic stores where you live see if any import Coke. Mexican Coke is still made with cane sugar.
Janice Johnson 11-23-2021, 08:53 AM Coca-Cola before 1985 . I don't know what they changed but it's NEVER been the same as it was back then!
Speaking on Coca Cola, Coca Cola decided to come out with New Coke in 1985 with NO warning to the unsuspecting Fans. The unsuspecting Fans dragged and ragged Coca Cola saying stuff like,"What have you done! This New Coke crap is NASTY! Give us back the OLD Coke! Coca Cola listened to their Fans and New Coke was pulled off the shelves quickly and the old Coca Cola was back. Interestingly enough, New Coke came back as a limited Promotion in about 2020 as a tie in for Stranger Things, a Series set in 1985. If New Coke were a person, New Coke would be like "After 36 years, I get my chance to shine again. 😏 I'm temporarily back!😏
Dr. Jazz 11-23-2021, 11:59 PM There was a fruit juice called Five Alive several years ago that I really liked. Not sure if it’s still around but I haven’t seen it in stores in years.
Someone here mentioned Stouffer’s Welsh rarebit. They still make that. I saw it in stores very recently. I have a box of it in my freezer.
zombi2 11-24-2021, 02:53 AM Little secret - if you ever wanted to try New Coke, Coke sold the recipe to Wal-Mart so it's been on the shelves as Sam's Choice Cola this whole time. I don't know if the "new" New Coke brought back for Stranger Things adheres to the original recipe or is just using the name.
Crusinforabrusin2.5 11-24-2021, 08:27 AM Apple Cinnamon Poptarts were the most delicious flavor, but were discontinued years ago for whatever reason.
I rarely drank soda but Sundrop was pretty delicious but you can't find it these days. Reesses Whips candy which was kind of like 3 Musketeers with Peanut Butter was also my favorite and you can't find that anywhere either
Janice Johnson 11-24-2021, 10:05 AM Oreo candy bar was good but is now discontinued.
JamesG 11-24-2021, 10:25 AM Oreo candy bar was good but is now discontinued.
Speaking of Oreo, the Oreo Cakesters are returning next year after being discontinued a decade ago.

I was reading that Five Alive is now only available in Canada.
You can order them on Amazon and some stores, like Walmart, sometimes have it imported.

Technically, those are just Whoppie pies. :)
KurtfromPitts 11-24-2021, 11:51 AM Betty Crocker Noodles Romanoff-loved it.
Janice Johnson 11-24-2021, 09:06 PM Viennetta ice cream from Breyers. I was a child when Viennetta ice cream was available and begged my Mom to buy it for me. She told me,"When you're an Adult with your own job, you can buy Viennetta ice cream." Too bad Viennetta ice cream was only available for about a year before becoming discontinued. :( I never got to eat it, although I REALLY wanted to as a child and still do to this day. :(
Janice Johnson 11-28-2021, 12:26 PM How could I have forgotten this? Dunkin Donuts chocolate and vanilla creme filled powdered doughnuts. So delicious. :) So sad these doughnuts are discontinued. :(
Krispy Kreme doughnut with white creme frosting, sweet crumbs, and strawberry filling. So delicious. :) So sad it's discontinued. :(

Janice Johnson 11-29-2021, 06:56 PM Nestle Bon Bon ice cream is another discontinued food I never got to eat but would have loved to have eaten it. Dibs is a close replacement however. :)
I miss the oversized Dove chocolate bar(About 8 ounces) I got at the movie theater when I was young like 9. They have since been discontinued. In fact, I even miss the small Dove bars. I haven't seen them in stores lately.
Janice Johnson 11-30-2021, 12:17 PM I miss Hershey's Gold. That was a good, sweet, delicious candy but sadly only lasted about a few months before going into the candy Oblivion Abyss. :(
I miss Tart N Tinys. These were basically nerds but just bigger. So delicious, good, and sweet but also went into the candy Oblivion Abyss...:(
