I knew that Mike Evans died of cancer back in 2006 but I didn't know that it was so bad that he literally lost his tongue. I wonder what Mike did for a living and in his life after The Jeffersons ended in 1985 and he essentially, retired from the entertainment industry. His very last on-screen performance was in part two (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0614952/reference) of the "Sayonara" episode from Season 11 (https://jacksonupperco.com/2016/01/12/the-six-best-the-jeffersons-episodes-of-season-eleven/) of The Jeffersons (also in 1985). According to the trivia section on IMDb for that episode, had there been a 12th season of The Jeffersons, then the producers were planning to bring Mike Evans back as Lionel Jefferson full-time.

I remember reading somewhere that he became an artichoke farmer.
