Philip Drummond (Conrad Bain) was a wealthy white man whose black housekeeper had just died. She had requested of Mr. Drummond to become guardian to her sons 12 year old Willis (Todd Bridges) and 8 year old Arnold (Gary Coleman). Arnold and Willis moved into Mr. Drummond's penthouse where his 13 year old daughter Kimberly (Dana Plato) also lived. Replacing their mother as housekeeper was Mrs. Edna Garrett (Charlotte Rae). Charlotte left to star in spin-off The Facts of Life. Her first replacement was Adelaide Brubaker (Nedra Volz). Sadly Adelaide's time on the show was short lived, she was never made a regular. Housekeeper after her starting in season 5 was Pearl Gallagher (Mary Jo Catlett). Shavar Ross recurred as Arnold's best friend Dudley Ramsey. In the middle of season 6 came Maggie McKinney who Philip married. Unfortunately with Maggie came her horribly annoying son Sam, one of the worst additions in sitcom history who ruined the show. Maggie wasn't likable either. Diff'rent Strokes had 8 seasons total from 1978-1986. When NBC cancelled at the end of season 7, ABC picked it up for one final season.

The Patty Duke Show aired 3 seasons on ABC from 1963-1966. Identical twins are common. Identical cousins, not so much. Patty Duke did great in a dual role playing Patty and Cathy Lane. Cathy's father was constantly traveling, so he sent her to live with Patty's family. Patty's parents were Martin (William Schallert) and Natalie (Jean Byron). Her younger brother Ross was played by Paul O'Keefe.
