[gets up from kitchen table, goes into the living room, and sees a large rattlesnake on the sofa] OH MY GOD!! OH MY GOD!! [runs into kitchen, comes back with a pistol] [shoots snake] Die! Marianne: What do you mean, 'What's the difference?' Private school is a place where you can be around other children that are just like you.
Edward: Those kids were not like me. They were all rich snobs who were spoiled to the bone.
Marianne: And I suppose you want to be around a group of sweaty grease monkeys who smell like oil?
Edward: No! I want to be around average kids. Kids who reed comic books, not the Wall Street Journel. Kids who watch "Diff'rent Strokes" not "Meet the Press."
Marianne: I just want to give you the best, son. Ever since your father ran away with that floosie of a secretary, I've been worrying about you.
Edward: Well don't worry about. It's time for me to go catch the bus now. Everything is gonna be just fine, you'll see.
Scene: The Garners' Porch:
[It is nighttime, and Frank and Jackie are sitting on the swing talking]
Jackie: I got another one of those pesky letters.
Frank: I seriously think we should call the cops.
Jackie: No no, that'll only scare the guy away.
Frank: Yeah......well how have things been between you and that McMillan girl across the street.
Jackie: She actually got the nerve to ask me over for a dinner party tommorrow night! She said you could come, but she called our daughters jezabels.
Frank: One day, one day on this Earth, I know that you and all your friends are gonna go over to that girls house and tell her off. Just one day........one day.
Jackie: One day............that one day is tommorrow! Yeah! We'll show her. She'll see. God knows that she will see.
Frank: Jackie, you are one of a kind, you know that?
Scene: The McMillan Residence:
[Jennifer and Edna are watching television]
Jennifer: Mother, what do you see in these old black and white television programs?
Edna: They remind me of my youth. Back when times were simpler and the world was more calm and relaxed.
Jennifer: Well, I still think that the times are changing for the better.
Edna: Whatever you say, Jennifer, whatever you say.....[yawns].....I'm tired. I'm gonna go off to bed. Nighty-night.[she goes to her room]
Jennifer [whispering]: It's about time I got that old bat out of here. I need to pay a speeding ticket, and I'm definatly not gonna pay it with my own money. [takes money out of her mother's purse and puts it in her pocket]
Scene: The Norton Residence:
[Marianne and Edward come home]
Marianne: Why did you do it?
Edward: The guy was asking for it! He was there calling me a prepped up snob.
Marianne: As long as you know it's not true, don't worry about it.
Edward: But he said it in front of-
Marianne: A girl?
Edward: No.
