Since we are at that time year when most charities start sending requests, I wanted to introduce everyone to a terrific way to make sure that your dollars are going to reputable charities.

https://www.charitynavigator.org/ , which I am not in any way affiliated with, is a wonderful way to vet charities and make sure that your money is being spent in a way that you approve of. This site will let you know what percent of each dollar goes to the cause in question versus high employee salaries or board member perks.

I learned about it during my years in the non-profit arena. It really came in handy when my MIL moved in with us. She was on a LOT of charity lists (they love seniors) and I used it to help her weed out some of the more shady/ineffectual orgs that were asking her for $.

Surprised that MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Assn) received only one star. I volunteer for many events there and give them a significant amount of money. I used to work the telethon each year until they changed the format. I also patronized their events in NYC before Covid.

Did you look through the details and find out why it was only 1 star?
