View Full Version : If you Could Have One Question Answered That You Always Wondered About
Babalu 11-02-2021, 05:52 PM I've asked this in different forums that I've been in. I don't know what kind of answers that I'd get here, but it's worth a shot.
Supposed that you were allowed to get the answer to one and only one question. What would you ask?
Two ground rules:
1) It can't be anything specifically personal to you, such as "How long will I live?" or "Will I ever get married?"
2) The question has to have a definitive answer, even if no one person could ever know the answer. Something like "How many pennies has the US government minted since the US became a country?" No one could know the exact number, but of course there is an answer.
I was surprised at the first question that I got the first time that I posted this on a forum, but after seeing the response it was obvious. Let's see how you do.
RetroGuy2000 11-02-2021, 06:13 PM I guess I'd ask, "Is there an afterlife?"
GentlemanJim 11-02-2021, 06:34 PM What will be the final score on the 2022 NFL Super Bowl?
Babalu 11-02-2021, 06:52 PM I guess I'd ask, "Is there an afterlife?"
Close to the first answer that I received that I was referring to above.
Is there a God?
That wasn't what I had in mind when I first thought of the question but it's perfectly obvious.

I thought about "Is there a God?", but it's not specific enough for me. If there's an afterlife, there likely is some kind of higher being guiding it. But "Is there an afterlife?" answers the question, "What happens to us?" To me, this is even more important. My cousin died in July due to complications related to Covid. She was a very kind person and believed in God. I would find it very comforting to know the answer, no matter what it was.
Caroline13 11-02-2021, 08:09 PM On the God question and for me, I probably believed there was one for my first 30 or so years, then things happened in my life and I questioned it all, then in my 60's or so I got off the God fence, and now I don't care, if there is that's fine if not that is fine too.
icecream 11-03-2021, 12:50 AM God definitely exists. He, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are the divine trinity, three in one and yet separate entities. Unlike other religions where the Muslim Mohammed/Allah (false god) and Buddha are long dead, and every Pope and Dalai Lama dies, Jesus rose from the dead two days after he was crucified and has been alive ever since. These verses especially sum up Christianity and how to get to heaven, my version is NIV: Romans 10:9,10 If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Then there is John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall have eternal life. Finally, Romans 8:1-3 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. (The me in that last passage was the apostle Paul who wrote Romans. But that would be true for anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as their Savior and asks him into their life.)
Babalu 11-04-2021, 07:39 AM Yeah, maybe this isn't the best forum to ask this question. Hey, I took a shot...

Yeah, I don't think you intended for it to turn into a sermon.
GentlemanJim 11-05-2021, 09:55 AM Well, if you want a cerebral question where the answer has absolutely no material benefit to the holder, it would be "Who was Jesus' biological father?
Which if answered, really answers two questions.

Yes, looking for some thought put into it.
So, even if Jesus' father was say, Irving Schwartz, that would only prove that Jesus wasn't God (or the son of God), not that there is or isn't a God.

True, but there is a broad spectrum of collateral reality that would come with that truth.
You would have proof that the Apostle Paul had an agenda with at least some dubious intent. You would have proof that mainstream christian religions were either knowingly dishonest or grossly inept at the subject matter they have proclaimed to be masters of for centuries.
We'd come to appreciate Joseph as more a symbol of compassion and good will, than as an instrument of faith.
GentlemanJim 11-06-2021, 05:19 PM What if the truth was that Jesus' biological father was a space traveler named Yahweh?

This is not intended to be a religious discussion.
The subject (as stated) is "What question would you like to know the answer to?"
The first question that I thought of (being an amateur historian) is "How many people were killed in WWII?"
It could be "How many ground balls were hit in the history of the major league baseball?"
It could be anything.
It's just supposed to make people think.
GentlemanJim 11-06-2021, 09:24 PM "Did Sigourney Weaver get breast implants before making the movie Galaxy Quest?" was another mystery that I've always wondered about.
