View Full Version : November at Eastland
'80sSitcoms 11-02-2021, 10:18 AM Happy November! An autumnal month of fall leaves, fall colors, fall fireplaces, fall fashions, and fall feasts!
Mrs. Garrett and the girls have weeks to prepare this year's dorm Thanksgiving feast! Yum, yum!
🍂🍂 🍁 🦃 🥗 🌽 🥘 🍲 🥧 🥂 🍁 🍂🍂
RetroGuy2000 11-02-2021, 10:34 AM Imagine what a Thanksgiving episode at Eastland could have looked like, every student gathered at a long table (maybe in the dorm commons room, since the Tiny Cafeteria would have been too small), each plate with some cranberry sauce, stuffing, turkey, and corn on it. What else would the cook have served? Pumpkin pie for dessert, but that goes without saying.
Outside, the leaves would have been falling from the trees, revealing the cheap backdrop. Mr. Bradley and Miss Mahoney would have come by to wish the girls a happy Thanksgiving. And Mrs. Garrett would have invited her friends, the Drummonds, for a crossover visit, which would have been WAY better than a Hello Larry Thanksgiving crossover. Sorry Ruthie!

Oh, definitely! And yes, feasting it up in the common room! :loveya:
But I wouldn't want the Drummonds there. I want it all for Garrett and her girls! But if we could go back in time for an actual episode, definitely a DS/FOL crossover instead of Hello (Goodbye!) Larry! lol
'80sSitcoms 11-02-2021, 10:41 AM Mrs. Garrett: "Okay gang, let's get this place decorated for fall! Molly! Natalie! Hang up the banner!"
Molly & Natalie: "Okay, Mrs. Garrett!"
Mrs. Garrett: "Sue Ann! Get the corn stalks!"
Sue Ann: "Got it! Fresh from Kansas City, Kansas!"
Mrs. Garrett: "Blair, help me cut these streamers!"

Goodbye Larry! Hahaha!
I would do a two-part Thanksgiving crossover where Mr. Drummond gets a call from Mrs. Garrett. She invites him up to the school, and he happily accepts. Then the Drummond family heads up to Eastland, while the girls busily prepare for the day with streamers and banners, just as in your photo.
Mrs. Garrett stresses about the turkey being done on time. She's not sure if there will be time to stuff the turkey with Stuffin' brand stuffing!
'80sSitcoms 11-02-2021, 11:22 AM ^---fun stuff(in')!
'80sSitcoms 11-02-2021, 11:28 AM while the girls busily prepare for the day with streamers and banners, just as in your photo.
Well, most of the girls...Blair!
-
RetroGuy2000 11-02-2021, 11:42 AM There! Now Sue Ann has finished painting the banner!
RetroGuy2000 11-02-2021, 11:46 AM Well, most of the girls...Blair!

:lol::lol::lol::lol:
Oh, Mrs. Garrett! Polishing gourds is so passe!
(Also, Mrs. Garrett misspelled "nails"!)

It's just her Mrs. Garrett accent! ;)
And great banner! (you even have it so realistic with part of the second "G" hidden behind Sue Ann blocking it in the foreground--I don't know how you did that!)
'80sSitcoms 11-02-2021, 12:00 PM Ooooo, that Blair! Being the loaf of the dorm and now acting all goody-goody to try and get my Cindy in trouble!
-
RetroGuy2000 11-02-2021, 12:12 PM Blair, you didn't even help with the banner! Get off your high horse! Chestnut isn't even in this episode!
Back in the kitchen, Mrs. Garrett is preparing the turkey and stuffing, using her favorite brand of stuffing mix...
'80sSitcoms 11-02-2021, 12:13 PM ^---hahaha, the annual posting of that pic!
(be sure to note my note about your banner above; I edited it)

I love the turkey.
I love the stuffin'.
I love the gravy.
I love corn muffins.
I love my family,
Gathered all together.
I'm glad Thanksgiving time is here.

I'll try to make it to the Thanksgiving party since I missed the Halloween one. I can't bring my friend Cindy though because she's having Thanksgiving dinner with her own family.

Great! See you then!
We'll need plenty of pie (so we can "pie bit" mean ole Margo), turkey, and of course plenty of Stuffin' brand stuffing, just like Mrs. Garrett makes it.

Pumpkin pie is one of the BEST parts of the whole holiday season! NOM!!!
Now, the question is: how much whipped cream do you like on your pumpkin pie?
'80sSitcoms 11-12-2021, 04:43 PM Pumpkin pie is one of the BEST parts of the whole holiday season! NOM!!!
We are in complete agreement!!
In fact, I just had my first piece of local vegan pumpkin pie of the season last night! :loveya:
Round 2 is tonight!! :D
Now, the question is: how much whipped cream do you like on your pumpkin pie?
Whatever amount that is, whether it's none, a dollop, or a layer! It's all good!
'80sSitcoms 11-18-2021, 12:59 PM What if Mrs. Garrett decided to do something fun and different with Thanksgiving dinner at the dorm in the common room this year and have everyone fix rhyming dishes? That would be fun!
The dinner table could be a cornucopia of fixin's such as:
Garrett's carrots
Bradley's rad peas
Mahoney's macaroni
Sue Ann's turkey divan
Cindy's turkey tendies (tenders, lol)
Nancy's Fancy ketchup (goes great with Cindy's turkey tendies)
Molly's cauli(flower) gratin
Nina's green-a bean-a casserole
Emily's Bolognese (goes great with Mahoney's macaroni)
Gail's kale
Nat's butter pats
Tootie's fruity bowl
Blair's eclairs
Tumpy's pumpy-kin pie
What a hardy dorm feast!
RetroGuy2000 11-18-2021, 07:40 PM Haha! Those are excellent! I'm especially fond of Blair's eclairs and Garrett's carrots!

Is it true that Julie Pie auditioned for "Little House on the Prairie"? And John Lawlor for "Hello, Larry"?
80s Dude 11-27-2021, 04:42 PM Off topic question
Is it true that Julie Pie auditioned for "Little House on the Prairie"? And John Lawlor for "Hello, Larry"?
I don't know if John Lawlor tried out for Hello Larry. At that time, he was probably a little too young to have two teenage daughters unless he started out early. Never heard of Julie Pie auditioning for Little House. I think The New Mickey Mouse Club was her first audition based on things she was said. Speaking of Hello Larry, Lisa Whelchel did try out for the older sister.
RetroGuy2000 11-27-2021, 05:00 PM Off topic question
Is it true that Julie Pie auditioned for "Little House on the Prairie"? And John Lawlor for "Hello, Larry"?
I believe Julie recently did an interview where she stated she auditioned for Little House. Guess she could have been Mary. Melissa Gilbert stated something like 500 girls were auditioned for Laura and 250 for Mary. Melissa Sue Anderson, I think I recall, said there were 500 girls auditioning for Laura, and 500 for Mary. (No-one ever says how many girls auditioned for Carrie). Between the three original Ingalls sisters, nearly every child actress in Hollywood must have auditioned for Little House. Hollywood was smaller in those days, as there were only three TV networks. Everyone saw each other at auditions.
John Lawlor did indeed audition for Hello Larry, and the producers told him if he could do Hello Larry, he could do Facts.
